Will the leading non-candidate for the Republican presidential nomination get into the race in time for a debate next month in New Hampshire?
Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson is expected to get into the race in early September, about the time of the Sept. 5 debate at the University of New Hampshire in Durham. But Thompsons unofficial White House campaign says no date has been set for any announcement.
Asked today by a Nashville radio commentator whether Sept. 5 is likely to be the day, Thompson said: I cant give you a particular date, but sounds like youre in the neighborhood.
Im taking the time that Ive got allotted to me to get my team together, to get my act together.
He travels to Iowa on Friday for his first visit to the leadoff caucus state. Thompsons first visit to New Hampshire was in June, when he spoke at a party fundraiser in Bedford.
Washington has been buzzing about the timing of a formal announcement for weeks, with traditional media outlets and online entities breathlessly reporting the supposed date.
First it was supposed to be July 4. Then, sometime that holiday week. Then by the end of that month.
Then, Thompson decided to wait until the fall to become a full-fledged candidate. That allowed him to skip several debates, and, instead, spend the time working on strategy and policy. The current run of Law & Order shows also will be over by then, meaning Thompson doesnt run into legal issues over how much TV air time he gets as a candidate.
In recent days, various reports have definitively said Thompsons announcement is scheduled for Labor Day, Sept. 3. But Thompson officials say anyone reporting a precise date is jumping the gun.
But not the fly away, thin hair of Edwards.
President Fred Thompson: “ Now folks, we are indeed looking at the problem of a couple of million or so illegals coming into the country every year, and believe me, we are going to, at some point, have some meetings about this and look for a solution and will get back to the American people”.
Hang in there! September 6th is the day! Etched in stone this time. Put it in the bank!
Fred will officially declare his candidacy and simultaneously announce to the world that he has only two weeks to live!
It'll be an emotional rollercoaster for sure. Save your strength for the big day.
Mitt is the only one who has a shot at out metrosexualizing John Edwards.
I wonder if he has ordered his wife some of those big long flowers for the big day?
I hope the CFR is hosting the buffet!
What a party! Should be plenty of Mexican wait staff..
I am sure there will be lots of “happy” women, if you know what I mean. Fred is such a stud, he draws them like a magnet...
I hope he gets a nap before he announces though...
hat to wear, what to wear...
I thought that 7 SEP 07 was the day the Clinton’s will appear in a California Court!!!!....
You’ve already mastered the art of self flagellation!
Acccchhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I LOVE it!
OMGosh! That is funny.
Show some proof. I see no signs of FRedheads “dropping off”.
It sure does! 8^)
Sounds like you’re too neurotic to be into politics, if a standard phrase like “Get your act together.” scares you.
“Im just saying its beginning to get close.”
Perfect timing always is. :)
I’d vote yoda.
“Kill the Muslim Radicals I will...
Good campaign them...
Nah. I'm not one to spam the same graphic over and over. I'll leave that to the spinners and talking point regurgitators.
You do realize, don’t you, that Mr. Thompson is just a stalking horse for Mr. Giuliani. Once he’s damaged Mitt and all the others beyond hope, he’ll just drop out and leave the field to the mayor.
A rudybot told me so!!
sitetest
i’m tired of waiting.
“We wont have time to test him out on the issues either.”
LMAO...Ya think?
