Will the leading non-candidate for the Republican presidential nomination get into the race in time for a debate next month in New Hampshire?
Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson is expected to get into the race in early September, about the time of the Sept. 5 debate at the University of New Hampshire in Durham. But Thompsons unofficial White House campaign says no date has been set for any announcement.
Asked today by a Nashville radio commentator whether Sept. 5 is likely to be the day, Thompson said: I cant give you a particular date, but sounds like youre in the neighborhood.
Im taking the time that Ive got allotted to me to get my team together, to get my act together.
He travels to Iowa on Friday for his first visit to the leadoff caucus state. Thompsons first visit to New Hampshire was in June, when he spoke at a party fundraiser in Bedford.
Washington has been buzzing about the timing of a formal announcement for weeks, with traditional media outlets and online entities breathlessly reporting the supposed date.
First it was supposed to be July 4. Then, sometime that holiday week. Then by the end of that month.
Then, Thompson decided to wait until the fall to become a full-fledged candidate. That allowed him to skip several debates, and, instead, spend the time working on strategy and policy. The current run of Law & Order shows also will be over by then, meaning Thompson doesnt run into legal issues over how much TV air time he gets as a candidate.
In recent days, various reports have definitively said Thompsons announcement is scheduled for Labor Day, Sept. 3. But Thompson officials say anyone reporting a precise date is jumping the gun.
This is actually smart. The later he comes in, the fresher he’ll seem. Whether I’ll vote for him or not remains to be seen.
I can wait until about September 6th, but not much more than that.
I’m going to hold my breath until he declares!
AND he can tell you the weather in 41 states off the top of his head! What more could you ask for? :D
What are they so worked up about.....just a few months ago Fred was happily making TV shows........yet he was tapped and is preparing for a presidential run....let the guy get ready, he will jump when he jumps.
You need more tin foil! I learned the hard way not to use the fancy teflon coated kind. That set me back weeks in getting my marching orders from the mothership.
That hair looks like Grecian Formula.......and is that a fake tan?
NO HE MUST DO IT NOW NOW NOW!
NOW Damn it!
YOU HEAR ME FRED I DEMAND IT!
Yeah, yeah...like you don’t see that FredHeads are running away from Fred like crazy! Sure!
Every day more and more of them discover that John Cox is the only true conservative in the race. Judging by his performance at Ames, he’s only $10 away from the Presidency.
Cox/Hunter 2008!!
P-
I hate it when that happens...
E-
I thought it was $11.95
Ping to #24...I forgot to include you when I posted it. :)
Well, I don’t want to give the fundraisers more work than they can handle.
There’s only 19 weeks until the Hawkeye Caucii,
18 weeks really as everyone will take Christmas week off.
Is this the way we pick candidates now? So, what do you think of the Breck Girl?
Your post reminded me of an old Mary Tyler Moore show where Ted Baxter used that stuff to dye his hair, LOL!
Guess I hadn't heard that Ted Knight passed away. I always though his character was the best on the whole show, LOL!
