<--snip-->
More surprisingly though comes news now about why Imus suddenly turned up on Rev. Al Sharptons radio show so quickly after his firing and did a lot of press that some people feel harmed him and fed the controversy. Some feel all those media appearances led to Imus dismissal.
Now Im told that Imus was coaxed into doing them by NBC senior vice president Phil Griffin. Imus, sources say, wanted to just to apologize to the Rutgers womens basketball team he offended and leave it at that. In fact, they say, he apologized to the team several times for his derogatory remarks about them.
But Griffin, sources close to the action insist, pushed him into high-profile interviews on the "Today" show and other places. Griffin, they say, threatened Imus with canceling his MSNBC TV simulcast if he didnt do the big interviews. The result was that he fueled the fire instead of putting it out.
He didnt care about Imus, says a source, only NBC. He told Don he would lose the MSNBC show if he didnt do the interviews. And then NBC cancelled the show anyway.
Now that Imus is away from both NBC and CBS Radio, the fun begins. And will the tag of "racist" hang on him forever? Its unlikely. Imus was famous before all this happened for having black guests on his show all the time. And children of every color attend his summer camp.
Its important to remember that Imus was always an equal opportunity offender.

Imus’s biggest sin was going after the Clinton’s, especially Hillary. If he hadn’t done that, his remark would have been ignored.
And Ford was the first to bail on Imus after his "nappy headed" comment.
Amazing how in this country the unforgiveable sin is when a conservative, or someone who is conveniently labeled conservative SPEAKS a word that is deemed racist/sexist/islamophobe/homophobe.
The forgiveable sin is flying loaded airplanes into buildings and killing 3000 people.
I think you're right.Up to the day he was canned he used to refer to The Former Twelfth Lady as "satan".And that look that she gave him at the Washington Correspondents' Dinner in '96 was one that I'll wager that Vince Foster was familiar with.
Imus was NOT a conservative, though at one time he did claim to be a republican. He drifted to the far left toward the end of his show and deferred to the left while slamming conservatives. I had to turn him off.
Except one of the "knappy headed ho's" is now suing him for defamation, and hopefully the jury will lift his $20 million and give it to her and/or her team mates, which would be sublime justice.

Yup...
“Except one of the “knappy headed ho’s” is now suing him for defamation, and hopefully the jury will lift his $20 million and give it to her and/or her team mates, which would be sublime justice.”
Gosh, when did we get “stupid lawsuit happy” here?
I mean, what actual damages can the lady show?
Can I sue for a boatload of money if some radio person insults some group that I’m a part of? Oh the Suffering I’ve endured! I can’t sleep! My live is ruined! My dog is shedding much more than he did before the insult! My car’s “Check engine light” came on during the radio broadcast of that insult! I’ve lost hair since that incident!
I was curious about what she could possibley sue over. The answer from her lawyer was that Imus had publically accused her of being “unchaste” for calling her a “ho?”
Well, what if he’s right? Doesn’t this open her up for an examination and public exposure of her sexual history?
On the flip side doesn’t the slander have to be believable? Imus didn’t know her or any of her teammates personally. I’m sure there are people would find in her favor but this looks like gold digging to me.
Quite the contrary; it would be whorable justice.
“hopefully the jury will lift his $20 million and give it to her and/or her team mates, which would be sublime justice.”
I hope you don’t mean that. If that happens, that will be the end of talk radio. They’ll start suing Mark and Rush and every other conservative. The basketball player was not harmed by the comment - if she was, she’ll have to sue all of her friends.
His favorite nickname for her is “Satan”.
“The forgiveable sin is flying loaded airplanes into buildings and killing 3000 people.”
Yeah, even POTUS_GWB thinks that 9-11 was the product of misguided “kids”.
Ridiculous.
Imus is no conservative, left wing hack is more like it
Imus is not a DUMMY..His Clinton barbs are popular
for the long run....Wonder if he will support Guliani.
I know one thing..half of the Hardball guests go to
the Imus program...go figure!!!!!!!!! jj
Wow, soon every athlete or entertainer can sue for big bucks against anyone who makes a harsh remark. Bad movie review? Sue for defamation.
