Locals and tourists came to Alpine Park Saturday to pet, admire, and kiss seven wolves and wolf/dogs.
The animals were visiting from the WolfWood Refuge and Adoption Center, a state-licensed non-profit refuge for wolves and wolf/dogs in Ignacio.
Paula Watson, who owns WolfWood with her husband, Craig, said children "are going to vote someday, so educating them about animal care is important."
Watson pointed out that wolves are on the endangered species list and that, whether they remain there or not, their protection will often depend on the voters.
Watson said children and adults who visited Alpine Park Saturday were gentle and comfortable with the wolves and wolf/dogs.
When the animals are taken out in public, they are known as ambassadors.

And trying to make liberal voters out of our children...
.
Animal welfare is not a liberal versus conservative issue.
I agree on that.
Ohio is trying to outlaw private ownership of certain animals. I am fighting that with all I can.
Interesting - it is the pols with the “D” after their name that are trying to ban private ownership.
PETA says that they only eat vegetables.
.../s
It’s not the first place do do so. Many places ban pit bulls, yet let people have wolves and cougars as pets. What’s up with that?
Right there with you. Fight on. Gorgeous picture of the children and the wolf. They are beautiful.
These children are also going to drive someday, so educating them on the food pyramid is important.
Cougars, bears and wolves have, in general much better reputations. They have not been bred for general viciousness in order to provide entertainment for lowlifes. That’s why.
So are you saying that only liberals treat animals well and care about them?
Paula Watson, who owns WolfWood with her husband, Craig, said children "are going to vote someday, so educating them about animal care is important."So, get them a pet, and make sure they are responsible for its care. That's education. This partisan theme park is just BS. Thanks Geo.
You don’t seem to know much about animals. WOlves, bears and cougars are wild animals. Tame and domesticated are two different things. Pitt bulls are still dogs and are by nature social with humans. Dog on dog aggression can beb a problem and any dog, regardless of breed can be mistreated to be a danger to humans. In other words, with pitt bulls, the problems are almost always at the other end of the leash.
No, it’s not.
Right.
I agree 100% - it is usually the person at then other end of the leash. There are of course, some animals that are just down right mean, period. But so are many people.
lol....
If those wolves were hungry them kids would be dinner.
Good that the children were gentle...
