Rove is correct when he says it was the run away Republican spending and their corruption problems is what cost them the House and the Senate. Bush and Rove made plenty of mistakes, but that is going to happen in any complex undertaking. The war in Iraq did not hurt the Republicans in the 2006 election. Most sane people know that it would be folly to drop that war. It was the likes of Duke Cunningham who cost us control of both houses of Congress.

I agree Rove is correct. Hastert’s defense of Jefferson, the Foley scandal and George Allen’s meltdown cannot be put at Rove’s feet. Additionally, midterms have always been brutal to 2nd term incumbent President’s parties. This one could have been a total disaster.
