Congressman Harold Ford rips free republic on Sean Hannity show. Congressman says "FR posts nasty things about blacks, hispanics, and women"
Bashed him? There is a daily Hannity thread and though I admittedly don't post there or listen to his show much (time constraints) I can't think it's a daily negative thread.
Hannity, there are plants from the DNC who post on FR and I'd think you'd realize not to paint all freepers with a broad brush.
BOR was creating news or he was bought off to make these allegations that were quickly shown to be patently untrue.. Simple as that.
Wow, someone must really be worried that FR will be a player somehow in the 2008 race. It seems like the orders are out to discredit the site in preparation for anything they it may uncover in the upcomming months. Good planning I guess on their part.
I don’t deserve “brilliant”, but I’m glad that you found it interesting. Thanks.
Ford:...You have the other side, Free Republic they post some awful things about African-Americans, they've posted some awful things about Hispanics, they've posted awful things about women. And I don't blame them for all of that, but the same time those postings don't go up on my site or your site. So people must go...
Hannity: Let, but I'll just, one little distinction about Free Republic is, is that, you know, the postings are by anonymous posters on the site versus, you know, Markos is the one that runs the site. And he said that himself. (Crosstalk Ford: Some of Markos' stuff...) And Free Republic in fairness they rip me all the time so it's not a matter of you know, they're not....you know, "Well Hannity says nice things about Rudy Guiliani therefore he's not conservative enough." I mean, isn't there a distinction if it's the actual head of the site that says it and in the case of the Democratic candidates going to debate in front of that group?
Ford: Just the hateful language. Look, I've been a victim of his comments and many people, even last night and today I remain one. I don't think you're going to be too far behind me in terms of the attention you get as well from them....
Ford is a Democrat. And I mean that as an insult. It’s the most hateful, cowardly, treasonous thing you can be.
We ARE blacks, hispanics and women!
Geez, Dude.
He was actually the DLC’s champion over Pelosi. Tennessee vs. California.
I guess that the truth can be nasty, sometimes.
Just like one plane can hit a tall building by accident, when two hit adjacent buildings if just might be something diabolical in the works.
Note, if you will, that the allegedly conservative (actually pretty close to the middle) large media outlet on TV has been hosting anti-FR spew lately, from O' Reilly's nonsense to this frontal assault.
These (media) people know the bottom line is about image. The facts don't mean diddley-squat, it is what they make you look like, and The Fox bunch has increasingly had people on trying to make us look like some sort of "hate" site.
What matters is the public perception, especially the perception of those who do not ever come here. Once branded as a "hate" site, it is as difficult to get rid of as fresh dog poop on your sneakers, even though it is undeserved. This could lead to everything from reduced readership, (fewer 'hits') to other sites dropping links, to even being shut down in an extreme case, although that would not occur without all of us digging deep to fight it.
The problem, though is that properly timed, such damage would effectively muzzle us in the most critical part of the runup to the Primary season or the POTUS election in '08.
Good people will be deterred from coming to the site, and those who admittedly do will be lumped in with actual philosophies fomenting hatred.
As a conservative, I see nothing conservative about hatred. I do not hate my country's enemies, only their warped philosophies and the sick results thereof.
Make no bones about it, there are many who stand to benefit by marginalizing Free Republic, and not just on the Liberal side of the political spectrum.
From Democratic members of Congress to their presidential candidates, and as much as I hate to think it, even a couple of Republican Candidates would benefit by not having us pull their previous statements out of the sockdrawer of history and demonstrate that their current professed positions are either bunk or representative of a St. Paul-on-the-Road-to-Damascus style epiphany.
Maybe some of the folks who are allegedly playing on the same team do not want to play a clean game either.
Maybe they are just that afraid of a candidate many of us support gaining traction and blowing them out of the water.
The mods do a great job of stripping a lot of ill made statements out, but it would be best for all of us to be aware of this every time we post, to read over our comments and make sure they cannot be easily taken out of context and used against us.
Just my $0.02.
We do? (Dangit, I never get the memo!) Sheesh!
Nicely stated, Joe. We Men of the West hold ourselves to a higher standard.
Please: NO profanity, NO personal attacks, NO racism or violence in posts.
I think there are some who post what I would call pretty rude comments. But for the most part there are a lot of great comments on this db that help explain what is going on.
It seems in vogue now to beat up on FR.
But come election time, watch these idiots try and kiss up...
