TEMPLE TERRACE - One of the University of South Florida students accused of carrying explosives in a car near a South Carolina naval base last week had planned to move into a home FBI investigators searched Saturday.
But Noor Salhab, a Realtor who owns the house at 12402 Pampas Place, said Sunday that he had not yet performed a background check on Ahmed Mohamed or received a rent check from the graduate student.

Possibly. PVC is not typically used for pipe bombs because it doesn’t cap or thread as well as rigid pipe.
I didn’t take time to look it up, but wasn’t it PVC pipe they found in the student’s trunk in SC. That’s what I was wondering, if it was maybe the PVC was brought with them. They said they had bought the stuff at Walmart...and I don’t know if walmart sells PVC pipe or not (possible in the garden section, I don’t have a clue on that one.)
The thing about PVC is that it can get through a metal detector if you use glass or rocks as the shrapnel surrounding it.
Not enough information about the pipe to make a guess about the purpose. Small diameter pipe wouldn’t be much good for serious pipe bombs. Since the pipe is normally sold in ten foot lengths it would have to be cut to make a bomb. No indication as to the diameter or length of the pipe found at the house. The pipe in the trunk of the car must have been cut to short lengths in order to fit.
-they are most likely trying to tie the PVC piping to that in his home to build a strong case.
“Noor Salhab”
Sounds like a good Irish name..........
Also, the owner's son continues to live in the house, according to the article.
I have probably [at least] a couple hundred feet of PVC in various diameters laying around. It's handy stuff to have around--one of the essentials beyond baling wire & duct tape.
Yup, and filled with corn, small hole in the bottom, top capped, tied to a tree; and you have a dandy low cost deer feeder.
I was thinking more like French sounding nowadays.
On the local news they indicated the owner of this house has connections to Sami Al Arian.
I hadn’t heard that and googled the two names. I found a quote in this old article where the owner defends Sami Al Arian.
http://www.sptimes.com/News/122001/TampaBay/USF_will_fire_Al_Aria.shtml
“Several leaders in the local Muslim community said they think he is being treated unfairly.
“He has never been charged with anything. It’s just accusations,” said Noor Salhab, a member of Islamic Community of Tampa.”
And in anoter times story there’s this connection, but it’s more guilt by association, not a direct connection to Al Arian:
http://blogs.tampabay.com/breakingnews/2007/08/agents-search-h.html
“A neighbor said Thursday night that Salhab and his wife are living in a rented home nearby on Soaring Avenue. Records show the owner of the house on Soaring Avenue is Sameeh Hammoudeh, a co-defendant in the trial of Sami Al-Arian. Al-Arian was a USF professor who was tried for funding terrorists organizations. He was acquitted but pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to provide services to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.”
So the essence of this is that the terrorists are still active in the Tampa Bay area. Guess that shouldn’t be a surprise.
