Brutality by the Bay

Here is the situation regarding the enterprise known as Your Black Muslim Bakery, located on San Pablo Avenue in Oakland, Calif. Its founder, a man named Yusuf Bey, was arrested in 2002 and charged with forcing an underage girl to have sex. Subsequent investigation suggested that he had a long history of rape and abuse of his followers and had by this means fathered numerous children out of wedlock. Bey died in September 2003 before his case could come to trial. His son Yusuf Bey IV has since been arrested twice, first on suspicion of leading a gang that had trashed two Oakland liquor stores and intimidated their owners, and second (and perhaps less Islamically) for running over a San Francisco bouncer with his car. Nedir Bey, one of Yusuf Bey's "spiritually adopted" sons, is also alleged to have beaten a possible business rival with a flashlight, while another member of the gang tortured the victim with a heated knife.

I worked in medium security state prisons for four years as a counselor. Nation of Islam in prison attracts a good number of sex offenders. At one prison the leader of Nation of Islam was a notorious serial rapist who had stalked and raped a dozen or so women on a college campus. I figured these guys were attracted to Islam because its customs meshed with their attitudes towards women.

Using the link you supplied, to Slate, this Hitchen's article had the exact title of your posting's of it here, with a subsequent sub-heading of;

Yet in the browser tab, along with the Slate "S" logo, appears the following;

What I'm curious to know is:

How did you get strike to work in your tag line?

Brutality by the Bay is the title of the article. Slate often leads of the first page with a different “title” which is more of a description or a come-on to get you to read the article.

Ok, by that, do you mean that it is safe for me to assume that it opens in a "new tab" by default setting, and that it was Slate, and not you, that titled the tab? I'm trying to get that real clear, whichever way it is...

I don’t. I don’t believe the tagline bar supports html. Does yours?

I don’t retitle anything at Slate.

Sorry, but that's less than an exact answer, as was your first reply... I was hoping for something more precise.

You are making me suspicious.

I asked you plain & simple questions. (Both times) You give me answers to questions I did not ask. Which do not settle the underlying issues, clearly.

I don't re-title anything at Slate either. 'Fraid I don't have editorial privileges there.

But you (as we all do) have editorial privileges here when posting and linking to an article, do you not, which allows one to chose that a link opens in the same window, new window, or new tab?

So, did you, or did you not, write the heading that appears in the new tab?

A simple

I do not understand the question.

I copied the title from the Slate article and pasted it into the first box on the Free Republic post-new-article page. I did the same thing with the url. That’s all.

I’m not a computer person so I don’t know how to do fancy or tricky things.

I don’t see what’s the big deal you are making about this.

Thank you for the reply, I honestly appreciate it.

Please pardon me for what I realize, may have seemed to you, like pestering from me, over this small item.

I am willing to explain it, but for now, you might try rereading first, the "heading", then the subheading, and while keeping those in mind, then reread the "heading" that appears at the top of the tab, the same 'tab heading' that I supplied to you, by quoting it verbatim, in my first post to you on this thread. The main clue, lies there...
