How could there be any problems today? Didn’t he receive the memo that Democrats won in 2006?

They only have problems when Republicans won, I thought.

there are no voting machine problems if a democrat wins; all in the world is right, pure and clean. if a republican wins, the whole system stinks, people of color have been disenfranchised, old people have been disenfranchised, women have been disenfranchised, anyone who is not lilly white has been disenfranchised, george bush is guilty of fraud and of stealing elections, and there is a conspiracy afoot to alter voting machines to favor a republican outcome.

A Texas election official, a Mr. Burkett, gave him rock solid “journalist” evidence, authenticated faxed documents.

Dan WHO?

manufacturers in third world countries who shipped these defective voting machines to the United States

Chad? Thailand?

Seriously, prior to 2000 paper ballots worked FINE and had an audit trail. I say we kill more trees and fewer electrons every November.

There is no need at all for voting machines. Paper ballots marked with furnished special pencil and counted by counting machines are reliable and not expensive. Manufacturers of voting machines profit from sale of machines. If Rather esposes the unreliability of voting machines that is good. But I suspect this will be an effort to preempt the effort to get rid of these machines and yet make it look like an honest evaluation of the machines that can be easily corrected and keep on selling the machines.

Odds are good that some electronic parts may well have come from Malaysia ~ and that’s hardly a third-world country anymore.

Paper ballots do not have an audit trail.

Audit trail no, but paper ballots EXIST, at least. Plenty of ways for fraud with paper ballots too, especially absentee ballot tricks and delaying military ballots, of course.
