Unbelievable! This is what they see as a positive message.

How do you end ugly stereotypes when so many with influence within a community embrace those stereotypes? As some black leader said once, the KKK couldn’t do a better job of denigrating blacks if it controlled these "artists."

Yup, the cultural mavens at BET are playing it. Can’t believe they would play that foul a video at all.

I can totally see the intent as good as well as to why they chose that particular way to get the message across. What surprises me, however, is the obvious use of black stereotypes and the overuse of the N* word. I’m surprised Sharpton and Russell Simmons haven’t put a stop to this.

BET is institutional racism on the air.
BET would not survive but for the fact subscribers HAVE to pay for it.

I believe this video is SUPPOSED to be a parody of the old Saturday morning public service announcements which used to run between cartoons. It’s not meant to actually be viewed as a positive message.

In a way, I don’t find this disturbing: this reveals that community for what it is....in the old days, the controlled monolithic media gave everyone the illusion we had the same culture....now, with this new media, anyone who thinks we share any sort of common culture is blind, deaf and dumb.....
To: quesney
This is the essential message that gentlemen like Bill Cosby and Thomas Sowell have been pushing for the black community....and I don't wish to put words in his mouth but I think TrueBlackMan would share the sentiment. But the way they're conveying the message is flat-out demeaning and racist.
Without knowing the context it's broadcast in, it's hard to tell if it's even serious or if it's mocking the message of blacks who are trying to reform the Thug Culture.
To: quesney
I will admit to being shocked and dumbfounded.
If BET is a highly supported, watched and influential member of the black community, then they are indeed lost.
I can see appealing in familiar ways to kids to get them to read more or whatever, but...THIS? I found it to be sad and disgusting.
