TECATE, Mexico: Mexican shelters, usually the last stop for northbound migrants, are filling with southbound deportees. Fewer migrants are crossing in the wind-swept deserts along an increasingly fortified border. Far to the north, fields are empty at harvest time as workplace raids become more common.
Mexicans are increasingly giving up on the American dream and staying home, and the federal crackdown on undocumented workers announced Friday should discourage even potential migrants from taking the risks as the United States purges itself of its illegal population.

Good!
118 degrees always slows you down. Time of year has something to do with it.
They’re still a bunch in Newark.
That would explain all those signs around here in Spanish that say, "Lots of freebies in Newark"!
They’re all here!
Deport them all. Let none back in.
Either that or the Coyotes have outsmarted those counting the illegals.. maybe its increased somewhere ELSE.. it IS summer.. much employment to be had..
I don't want to use slave labor to move forward.
What a sob story!
These dumb-asses want me to feel sorry for *Mexicans* (not even the PC “Mexican-Americans” but flat out “Mexicans”) not being able to work in America!
Next thing, they’ll want me to feel bad if all of a sudden my customer support calls go directly to Americans over the phone instead of the Indians!
No doubt. I find it hard to believe it’s because of a few raids here and there.
The surge is working!!!

“118 degrees always slows you down. Time of year has something to do with it.”
EXACTLY!!!
I'm going by memory but it cannot be most workers as this AP employee says. Twenty-six percent of ag workers are estimated to be ILLEGAL aliens. I'll check.
From an Internet source citing Pew Hispanic Center, 2006.
Illegal immigrants account for 24% of farm workers in the US, 17% of cleaners, 14% of construction workers.
Another source said 10% of the restaurant workers are ILLEGAL aliens.
So Mexicorruption's President Felipe Calderon says the American economy cannot "move forward" if it lost most or all of those workers. He's got them "lost remittances blues."
I will believe it when emergency room visits drop and Home Depot doesnt have a crowd of em.
Is Mexico now all empty??
Not exactly. If it's 118 on the border, then it's 125 degrees in the depths of Mexico. That gives the illegals more incentive to leave 125-degree Mexico and cross the 118-degree border into the cooler parts of America. Unless of course these illegals are doing the math and realizing that they are less welcome here. In which case, they'll stay put in 125-degree Mexico.
