Good, it turns out your guess was correct.

On another note, worse than not calling the Feds is the unbelievable actions of the judges who let this creep out on bail multiple times. It's disgusting.

It wasn't a guess.

County officials never alert immigration to anything - ever since the NJ State Troopers profiling "scandal" law enforcement in this state has been forbidden to inquire about any perp's immigration status: the NJ Supreme Court considers it to be a violation of the perp's civil rights.

When the sherriff's office said "apparently" that immigration knew, I recognized that he was using "plausible deniability" language.

If they actually had informed immigration, the officer would have given an incident and a date that immigration had been contacted and completely passed the buck with a sigh of relief.

That he was incapable of doing so was telling.

And no, I am not surprised that one of our corrupt judges has extended bail to this classic example of a flight risk.
