Mayor Mike Fahey wants to add surveillance cameras in violent areas, boost the Police Department units that serve those neighborhoods and stiffen local gun laws in response to the spike in gun violence that has left nearly 40 people wounded in shootings since July 1.
The mayor delivered his ideas today as the city marked a period of peace - 44 hours and counting without a shooting.
Thirty-one people were hit by gunfire in July, including an 18-year-old killed outside a northwest Omaha apartment complex.
Six more people have been wounded and one man was killed in shootings this month.
The mayor's immediate plans to quell the violence include adding three officers to the gang unit - two permanently - and four officers to patrol the parts of Omaha that need it most until the violence calms. snip

How’s your rounding skills today? News from the Neborg.
And the reason for the increase in violent crime is?
I think they meant the 31 people in July plus the 7 more this month.
Organized government is proving itself ineffective. Too PC.
Are citizens of Oklahoma allowed to carry?
Damn guns! They are really out of control. They all need to be locked up.
Any American citizens involved here?
It’s not GUN violence, it’s GANG violence. Get a handle on the gangs, and the “gun problem” will lessen.
Were all these shots criminal, or were there some self-defense rounds fired? Not ALL gunshot wounds are undeserved...
“Are citizens of Oklahoma allowed to carry?”
Yes.

Rewards need to be increased to at least get the people who might not otherwise care, to provide information on these violent crimes and put these bastards away or fry them.
While the latest homicide happened in broad daylight in a busy area, a good many of them occur late at night. A curfew might be in order to get a handle on this problem. It wouldn't be necessary if people would take responsibility for their own children, but in certain areas of town it isn't uncommon for a number of youth to be congregating on street corners, etc. There is no reason why a minor needs to be out of the house after midnight. It might not solve the problem, but it would definitely reduce the frequency of these murders.
Oklahoma? Omaha is in Nebraska.
“Were all these shots criminal, or were there some self-defense rounds fired? Not ALL gunshot wounds are undeserved...”
Don’t know how many thugs were shot here. But in most cities, its close to 80% that are thugs. Thats why there is no real anger or outrage in the general community.
The article is from the Omaha World Hearld, it is about violence in Omaha, that is in Nebraska, not Oklahoma. As full of holes as it is, Nebraska finally has concealed carry as of the first of the year. One of the holes is, citys are allowed to ban carry in that city, another is that no other state permits are honored.
Silly me (dumb ass) geography was never my best subject. Slinks away in shame.
May I ask the question again with the right state in mind? Does Nebraska allow its citizens to carry?
I'll give you one guess, first a hint, there is a business called Omaha meat packing operation there, need another hint? It's not two far from several others. So you answer may start with ill..... is that a big enough hint?
This Mayor is also a member of Bloomberg’s anti-gun front group, “Mayor’s Against Illegal Guns” . Everyone should check the list to see if their mayor is a member of this insidious group .
