The problem is not getting Illinois to go Republican in the general election (something that I doubt will ever happen in my lifetime), it's getting enough delegates to get yourself nominated at the convention.
If Thompson has no delegates, he will not get the nomination. That's why he needs to climb down from his ivory tower and get in the game now.

Since every single candidate disagrees with me on at least one issue or employs someone who disagrees with me on at least one issue, I've decided that the only rational course of action is to vote for myself!
After all, I agree with me 95% of the time (lithium should take care of that last pesky 5% any day now), and I don't employ ANYONE! Now, I do need some help around the ol' campaign office, so I'm working on implanting my brainwaves onto several robotit servants until I perfect human cloning.
Only uniformity of all thought will do in my campaign. When my staffers order pizza for those all-nighters, it's pepperoni, sausage, and black olives for everyone, no exceptions. I'LL BE DAMNED IF I'M GOING TO SEE ANY CANADIAN NAU BACON ON IT!!!
