Ron Paul Quietly Converting GOP Believers
By John Fout TheStreet.com Political Correspondent 8/9/2007 12:20 PM EDT
Why haven't conservatives leaders embraced their own ideals and come out to support Ron Paul in public?
I pondered this issue in an article in June. I saw Paul as the one second-tier candidate who might have a chance of a breakout from the pack. It turns out I might have got it right. He has remained the most popular GOP candidate on the Internet. This genuine outpouring of support is rivaled only by that for Barack Obama.

Thank you, sir. Very well said.
FReepers are not the enemy.
I’m for all but the “50s rock and roll” part.
“This genuine outpouring of support is rivaled only by that for Barack Obama.”
What’s this, propaganda? - Mae West
Please excuse me, but I cannot tell from your post if you think that is a good thing, or a bad thing.
Please elucidate.
If it is, it’s not very convincing.
At this rate, I’ll get to choose between two candidates who are wrong on the WOT.
Hardly any national “leaders” of the GOP would endorse Paul if he were the nominee. Most would support HRC, as would GWB. It would be an unusual way to destroy the GOP, I guess. HRC would win fifty states or at least match Reagan’s forty-nine. People are afraid of Ron Paul.
Why would GOP leaders support HRC?
I know the GOP is on suicide watch, but why would you speculate they will support HRC? They can commit suicide quite effectively simply by nominating Rudy.
What people are afraid of Ron Paul? The globalists? The Insiders? The Marxists? All of those?
Sorry...your goals are incompatible with limited constitutional government. In fact, based on the power you want to hand to our government, you're indistinguishable from a liberal Democrat. They just have a different laundry list of things they want to do with it.
I think this conversation is pretty much over, though you may certainly have the last word if you wish.
Bwahahahaha! You owe me a new keyboard!
Oh. You were serious.
Yep. That’s how I read it.
Rudy can win 20 or 25 states, but Paul couldn’t even win AK in my opinion. Haven’t you seen how GWB (and GHWB and Jeb too) always caters to the Clintons?
A former AR Republican official told me this year that “a lot of Arkansas Republicans” do favor HRC in 2008. Even those nominally for favorite-son Huckabee
We were in Beirut in 1983 when Hezbollah massacred the Marines, so Reagan pulled the troops out of Lebanon.
We went to Somalia in 1992, Black Hawk Down occurred in late 1993 and the troops were subsequently pulled out by Clinton.
These "cut and runs" were cited by Bin Laden and other jihadists as inspiration for 9/11, they said we "rushed out in shame and disgrace".
If you want to vote for an anti-War candidate, at least vote for the one on the Right.(note, this is not an endorsement of Hagel, simply putting Paul's votes in perspective)
Here are some more ‘Conservative(sic)’ votes by Paul:
Voted NO on federal crime to harm fetus while committing other crimes.
Voted NO on forbidding human cloning for reproduction & medical research.
Voted NO on barring transporting minors to get an abortion.
Voted YES on funding for alternative sentencing instead of more prisons.
Voted NO on more prosecution and sentencing for juvenile crime.
Voted NO on military border patrols to battle drugs & terrorism.
Voted NO on allowing school prayer during the War on Terror.
Voted NO on allowing vouchers in DC schools.
Voted NO on passage of the Bush Administration national energy policy.

Voted YES on more immigrant visas for skilled workers.
Voted YES on providing $70 million for Section 8 Housing vouchers.
Voted NO on promoting work and marriage among TANF recipients.
Voted NO on treating religious organizations equally for tax breaks.
Let's also not forget Paul's Pork Projects (that he voted for before he voted against when he calls them unconstitutional but he is just playing the game when he submits them because everyone else does it.. yadda yadda yadda..)
Why not, it neutralizes the charge that Democrats are tolerant of radical anti-Israel sentiment in their midst.
It's a minor incident itself, but in an interview the other day Ira Froman (head of the National Jewish Democratic Council), when asked to address the issue of haters on the left, responded that they exist on bothe sides, Dems have Jimmy Carter and Jim Moran, Repbulicans have Ron Paul and Daryll Issa. The difference being that Dems criticize their own, the Republicans have an 11th comandment never to criticize their own.
Factual no, effective with Dems concerned about the issue, yes, it takes it away.
The sane people who have an IQ above 80.
Are you advocating invading Beirut and Somalia and trying to convert their rabid masses to liberal democracy as well?
I’m very libertarianish when it comes to the economy, but I’m not ‘high’ enough to support Paul’s foreign policy.
