You know I posted yesterday or day before about how a judge here tossed a DUI because the arresting officer was not “properly sworn” when becoming a police officer because of the police department merger here back on January 1?
Well the courts today were deluged by both convicted inmates and still-to-be-tried defendants to have their cases thrown out on that technicality - so far the judges are denying these motions awaiting a decision by the state appeals court.
That is so wrong.

Wouldn't know. To tell you the truth I think the entire University system today sucks. The ones that aren't sausage grinders cranking out millions of mediocrities with degrees are outright Ivy League Marxist Madrassas. I really hope if a real conservative wins the Executive in '08 that they appoint David Horowitz as Secretary of Education. |

This collapsed bridge here in MN is a very teachable moment if Conservatives have the guts to grasp it. This is a very good example of possible consequences when existing transportation dollars are repeatedly misapplied by both the State, and the Federal, Govt.
The problem here is not that Government, at all levels, lacks the money to spend on infrastructure repair, the problem is the Govt, at all levels, repeatedly misspends the funds it does have.
This bridge was determined structurally deficient in 1990. It was build using 1960s engineering norms that were now out of date.
During the 1990s the State of Minnesota diverted over a billion dollars of State, and Federal, infrastructure dollars into an eco-freak boondoggle light rail project between down town Minneapolis and the Minneapolis airport. The project was called the “Hiawatha Light Rail Corridor”.
Add in the dollars spent developing other purposed “Light Rail lines and the total amount the State of Minnesota and the Federal Govt have spent on Commuter Rail is $2 Billion.
Perhaps Minnesota politicians should have been tending to their existing infrastructure instead of wasting our money for political “legacy building” and “prestige” projects.
Using the currently stated cost for rebuilding the bridge at $250 million, for the cost of the light rail projects this bridge could have been completely rebuilt from scratch 10 times.
Intresting side note. This “Hiawatha Light Rail”project was largely the brain child of the Metropolitan Council . Either as the head of the council, or one of its most politically connected members at the time, was former VP Walter Mondale’s son Ted Mondale.
The sadly ironic thing here is the terminal for this billion dollar waste of State and Federal transportation dollars is about 1 mile from the bridge that collapsed.
