MIAMI -- This graying hippie makes the nightly, winding climb 18 feet to her cozy bedroom. She wakes to roosters' crows and the scents of dewy soil. Over breakfast, her view is a jungle of towering trees, no hint of concrete civilization.
Shawnee Chasser lives in a treehouse above a secret garden in the middle of Miami. For 15 years, she has lived atop the 1.5-acre nirvana of green trees and farm animals behind a row of houses 10 minutes from downtown.
Neighbors come for potlucks, drum circles and weekly volleyball games. Tenants who rent the extra bedrooms hang out in the open kitchen. It is exactly the peaceful paradise Chasser envisioned when her brother and others built the three-story treehouse months before Hurricane Andrew devastated the area in 1992.

I agree. I just hope those pythons that are madly breeding out there in FL don’t take a liking to her tree house.

Maybe because he is telling the world how to live and complaining about poverty, war, and the environment, when her contribution to society is to sit around in drum circles, smoke pot, and whine the government isn’t doing more..

I don’t see the need to criticize her either. I’ve seen some shows on tree houses & some of them are pretty neat. I can’t see me living in one but I wouldn’t mind vacationing in one as long as there weren’t drum circles and bugs...

I have no problem with this, just don’t tell everyone else that we have to live like this.

"Sounds pretty cool actually. Too bad there are no pictures of the treehouse." Yeah, I agree. I HATE stories like this that show no pictures!!
To: jackibutterfly
Well, the pictures have arrived. It is actually rather rare that the pictures to a story exactly match my idea of what they are going to look like. In this case, they couldn’t get any closer.

If they don’t jam their political garbage down my throat I would like to stay there. For 380 dollars a monthy I could rent the rom in the Tree house and then have a samll studio to give me a sense of civilization and spend my time betwen the two of them according to my mood. I have to admit I dont think to much of a compost toilet.

Why wouldn't I? Everyone eventually dies and when I look at hippies I think God for making it that way. They've been nothing but trouble.

What I never understood about hippies (neo or paleo) is the utter selfishness of their existence. This is why draft-dodging became commonplace.
