Lots of people lived in florida without air..and still do.
Don't forget that air wasn't used until mid/late 1900's. Since then....every piece of land in Florida is being built on...lol

Hehehe. Originally I had used the word appalling, to be frank.

Silly me. I thought we were living in the USA. This woman, I suspect from what I have read, lives in an perilous urban area and opens her small paradise to children groups, teaches them about the joys of gardening and animal husbandry, opens up to the community at large and promotes the notion we are all connected to a greater good.

Label her as a "hippie" or "enviro-nazi" or "tree hugger," I for one, would be glad to know her. Additionally, I wonder how many of these posters with "interesting" comments have done as much for their communities. Actions speak louder than labelling words.

It sure is.

Charles Foster Kane: You know, Mr. Bernstein, if I hadn't been very rich, I might have been a really great man.
Thatcher: Don't you think you are?
Charles Foster Kane: I think I did pretty well under the circumstances.
Thatcher: What would you like to have been?
Charles Foster Kane: Everything you hate.

No, they aren’t dead, in spite of their early lifestyles. I just saw a bunch of them in Colorado. They make even uglier old people than they did young people. I must say the men look much worse than the women, which is unusual as men usually age so much better than women. And they still wear those ugly sandals.

And reading your comment, and applying your logic, justifiably so.

Listen up, bub. We are in a culture war for the soul of this country, and we appear to be losing. Part of the reason we are losing is because, while all of the jackasses on the Left are free to run around demonizing conservatives to the point of delusion, there are still a great many on the Right who don't have the stomach to fight. In fact, they don't even have the stomach to disagree. If you can't muster up the fortitude even to listen to criticism of your ideological opponents, how could you possibly expect to defend your country against them?

I'm willing to bet that this woman is very nice in person (perhaps until you tell her you voted for Bush), but at voting time, assuming she takes the time to vote, she is most likely pulling the lever for candidates and policies which are tantamount to putting a gun to the head of every person who believes in traditional American principles.

This whole Right vs. Left thing, which really translates to American vs. anti-American, is going to get a lot worse before it gets better, and it's going to require some real determination and guts among true Americans if they wish to prevail, so for God's sake, man up.

And that's the distinction that should be made. We should try to prevail over the ideas she holds (assuming we know what they are), instead of impugning her on the basis that she lives in a tree.

I'd like to live in a treehouse. And I've wanted to ever since I was a kid and read/watched The Swiss Family Robinson. I wouldn't mind growing a ponytail either. The fact that FReepers would berate me merely on the basis of my photograph makes me sick.

I see a lot of people are blowing off steam on this thread, some to the degree their posts have been deleted. Oh well, that is the nature of some.

The main danger of "hippies" is those that are fighting against our Country and Military with their communist tactics and nasty America-hating rallies etc.

My Nephew built a Tree House some years ago. He is one of those computer techs, and had a couple of computers in it

Yes that is him on a Unicycle How else would anyone traverse a log over a canyon?

All built in Redwood Trees, unlike the lady in this thread who used a telephone pole type support. One of those outlawed these days because of it's being treated with dangerous illegal chemicals. LOL

I never got to see all of the deleted posts, so I don't know what those said, but from what I've seen on this thread, people aren't criticizing her for how she looks or for living in a treehouse, but specifically for being a hippie. Now, it is the author of the article who describes her that way, but I can't imagine that the author would describe her in that specific term unless she had described herself that way (although no amount of journalistic misconduct would surprise me these days). It is the "hippie" designation that sets off the conditioned response, because if you assume that a self-described hippie is a left-wing anti-American nutjob, you would be right 9 out of 10 times.

If you've ever looked in on the Minutemen threads, or some of the Freeper events, you'll see all kinds of people in those photos with ponytails and whatever else, and I've never seen any Freepers make fun of them. It's the ideology, not the appearance or type of housing that prompts the responses, so I wouldn't worry too much about your ponytail.

I don’t care if people live in a treehouse. I care when some hippie has two kids and refuses to get a job while demanding that someone support her kids. Who knows what a “landscaping business” is to a hippie. She could just be collecting a government check while pretending to be a “business owner”.

Get a husband
Get a job
Get out of my pocket, hippie

What we think about another, we think about ourselves. Good luck with that "hate" thing. Do you call yourself a Christian?

What we think about another we think about ourselves. That's bullsh*t. I think child molesters are trash, I don't think I'm trash. I am a Christian. Good luck with that "accept any idiotic idea that comes along" thing. Begone.
