The tests that the techs ran all indicated the motherboard, and I would have had them replace it even though the parts and labor would cost as much as buying a new one. It would have been worth it to me, just to have all my files and stuff there as I wanted them because the harddrive was okay and all the files were okay. However, in trying to find a motherboard to replace it, they found that Gateway had quit making that particular one, since Windows XP was being phased out by Windows Vista.
And, I did buy another Gateway. :) I do like their computers and really can't blame them for the electrical storm. But this time I bought a 3 year extended replacement warranty, which will almost guarantee I won't have ANY problems for the next 3 years. :)
Very good, Billie. I have heard Gateway is good! Things just happen sometimes! I never unplug mine....didn’t know I had to! Do I?
