SACRAMENTO, (AP) -- The impasse over the state's long-overdue budget turned heated Wednesday when the Democratic leader of the Assembly said Republicans would lose the gains they had previously negotiated if they fail to end the stalemate quickly.
"Political hostage-taking is not the way to do business, and we can't reward it," said Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, recently returned from a European vacation. . . .

It’s incredible to believe the “SPENDERS” are arguing over a 250 million dollar street light synchronization bill, 150 million gong to L.A County, the Republicans are willing to spend 100 million which they say 50 million is what it should be. NEVER MIND THE 30 BILLION DOLLARS OF NEW DEBT. And to think we threw out “Gray Out” (Davis), for California’s OUT OF CONTROL TAX & SPEND liberal policies we have now and in the future (future entitlements approaching trillions).

Well... if the Democrats want to play hardball - there won't be a budget. Its that simple. Your side needs it more than ours, Fabian!

Fabian Nunez's childish temper tantrum and wild accusation of threats of extortion from the Republican side are amazing when you consider the CAGOP is asking for $800 million worth of cuts and programs savings. That's 1% of a bloated budget. Don't tell me a 1% cut in spending is going to mean the end of the world in California. If the Democrats were rational, they'd sit down with the CAGOP to discuss how to eliminate the deficit. This isn't rocket science - in case the Assembly Speaker doesn't know it, California's Constitution REQUIRES a balanced budget. That means don't spend more than you take in revenue. Its a simple equation any schoolchild and for that matter every California family understands. But its a lesson that appears to be lost upon Sacramento.
