WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Potential presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich on Tuesday blasted the modern-day road to the White House as too long, too expensive and verging on "insane."
The former House speaker from Georgia said he will decide whether to enter the GOP presidential field in October. But in a wide-ranging speech at the National Press Club in Washington, he ridiculed campaign consultants and spin doctors who he said are extending the 2008 campaign. He said presidential debates have become "almost unendurable."
"These aren't debates," the former Georgia congressman said. "This is a cross between [TV shows] 'The Bachelor,' 'American Idol' and 'Who's Smarter than a Fifth-Grader.'"

That's because the modern Dim party and their enablers the MSM are insane.
If Newt doesn't recognize the the Swift Boat Vets were just trying to do the reporting that the MSM refused to do, he's missing the boat (pun intended).
No Newt, to loose a enviormental debate to John Kerry and to have sucked up to Hillary Clinton and then to think we would forget and still think your relevent is insane!
I watched him discussing this on CSPAN last night. He was dead-on.
If this thread goes as many concerning Newt do, there will be post after post claiming that Newt is insane, immoral, kissing up to the left ... with zero discussion of what Newt is actually saying is wrong with the status quo. I would so enjoy being wrong.
Wow, it only took until post #5, and I swear that I didn’t read it before I hit the post button on my prediction. SSDD.
Interesting. The Swift Boat vets were responding to and debunking a fraudulent lie by Kerry. The only reason it mattered was that Kerry acted like his service in Vietnam qualified him to be president. His entire political life that was always his shield against attacks that he had aided the North Vietnamese, which would disqualify him as President.
The sting of the Swift Boaters telling the truth is what fueled the National Guard memos gambit. And what happened there is CBS got caught telling an intentional lie in a desparate effort to help Kerry.
So, if it was insane for these to be the focus, then it’s insane to point out that the other side is lying their pants off. I don’t think so.
The insanity was (1) Kerry running as a war hero as a fig leaf to cover the depth and extremity of his anti-war activities in the Vietnam era and (2) a major network destroying itself to help a faltering democrat.
But it won’t do for Newt to say such things, because Newt’s focus groups tell him he can pole vault into the race like Rosie Ruiz or Ross Perot and posture himself as the Non-Partisan Voice of Reason (TM). This is why he is so careful to always say nice things about Democrats, and to sign on the Global Warming baloney. Because the focus groups love that stuff.
Bring back the smoke filled room.
If the road to the White House is insane, I think Newt should be able to navigate those waters pretty well (wink-wink)
By “insane” he means “Wah, I’ll never get there.”
Go Duncan! :D
“No Newt, to loose a enviormental debate to John Kerry and to have sucked up to Hillary Clinton and then to think we would forget and still think your relevent is insane!”
Has Newt started dating his fourth wife, yet?
Newt vs. Rudy
Nah, not the race for the white house, the race for wife #4....
I agree, it really comes down to who can raise the most money.
Cheers for your post. What a pig Newt is, putting down the Swiftboaters. He might be bright, but he got no class.
Re: By insane he means Wah, Ill never get there.
So you think that who raises the most money should be the main determining factor of “electing” a President?
How many of our Founding Fathers would not have made the cut in todays races?
How true. It has almost reached the point where anyone who wants the job is disqualified automatically because of the butt-kissing and schmoozing and compromising required to get it. Catch-22! Either that or they are simply power-mad - see Hillary, Edwards, John McCain.....
This goes along with comments by Neal Boortz pertaining to the presidential election. Boortz calls it a “beauty contest,” and he is right. It is in fact an insane three-ring circus, one that lasts for two years now.
Bring back the smoke filled room? How about going back to the original Constitution where the president was selected by the House of Representatives!! I think a single six-year term is enough. No more of this idiotic two year long three ring circus. No more Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton dynasties. Not only that, people would take far more seriously their selection of a Representative to the House, which is the one body that can initiate tax legislation.
The nation’s Founders had it right. We just screwed up later on!
