now i disagree with that.

back in the day, more pitchers threw complete games, and today, you are lucky to get some doofus to get six innings....and the reliever(s) are brought in, but these relievers are part of the watered down pitching as far as i am concerned, they couldnt be starters so they are relegated to the b.p.

itz not like there is a plethora of unbelievable relief pitchers in the game today, if there were, some would be starters by now if they had true talent.

We can respectfully disagree. Only so many pitchers can be starters. All teams have very, very good pitchers who go for an inning or two every couple days.

I bet a fair number of the pitchers who tossed these balls to Bonds did steroids as well.

Yeah? How many no hitters did they have? Name the pitchers that won a Cy Young?

Sorry, only steroid Babe Ruth had was in beer and hotdogs and Hank Aaron had no vices that I know of! Thats called natural un-enhansed talent! Bonds is a sham and no matter if he hits a 1000, it will always have an astrick next to it and will never be taken serious.

Listened to ESPN Racist Radio morons this morning. White loser recited his top 5 “of all time” players, who were all black (Mays-Aaron-Bonds...). When he dared to mention Babe Ruth, the idiot black co-host said “nope...he never played against Negro leaguers—doesn’t count. What a joke. So Hank Aaron, who hit where the CF fence was 402 (and remember how they kept moving the fence in at Atlanta for Aaron—how is that not as bad as steroids?), is to be compared against Ruth, whose CF fence was 468??? Aaron, who trailed Ruth’s career average by 40 points. Aaron—who took 100 years to get to 755, while Ruth, had he played as long as Aaron, would have had 1,667 home runs!!! But because he didn’t play black pitchers it all means nothing??? This kind of racism is on ESPN nearly every day now. Mickey Mantle didn’t even make the top 10, even though he played against blacks—and his stats blew Aaron’s out of the water.

Today, there is always a fresh pitcher coming in to relieve. In the later innings, I think that makes a difference and the pitching is actually stronger than it used to be.

Bob Gibson said the pendulum swung to the batter's side once they lowered the pitcher's mound after he had 34 complete games in a single season. He was furious about it at the time, and he says it became much easier to hit homers after that.

“I don’t get the folks saying it doesn’t count because he may have used steroids.

Lots of Baseball players have used steroids and they didn’t do this.

I bet a fair number of the pitchers who tossed these balls to Bonds did steroids as well.”

Posts like yours are just plain ignorant.

Ruth’s rightfield porch was very close.

The Yankees are always looking for Left-handed power hitters for the middle of their lineup. Why? The Right-Field “porch” that was put in allegedly to advantage Ruth’s HR stats. Whether that was intended or not (I think it was), it certainly helped Ruth hit HR’s out of what otherwise was a mammouth ballpark.

Listened to ESPN Racist Radio morons this morning.

Guest William Rhoden's reasoning is downright embarrasing. In one breath he acknowledges the steroid-era, and suspicions about Bonds; in the next he says, "No one can question Bonds' accomplishment."

Huh?

Being a loyal Indians fan, living in the Baltimore area ... I HATE THE YANKEES.

But this is one player I will be cheering for to break the record a few years from now.

GO A-ROD !

Ok so Ruth and Bonds had "adjustments" made. Ruth still hit 714 in less than half the time.

I agree with you.

And the one thing that pisses me off the most is that MLB has not retired Ruth's Number.

This was the guy who defined the word 5 Tool Player. But as there was never another Babe Ruth they had to shorten the list of skills they were looking for in a ball player.
He hit for Power, Avg., On Base Percentage, Slugging Percentage. Drove in Runs, Stole bases, Fielded could Throw. Was the Ultimate Clutch Hitter and he did what no other player today can do......

Pitch a Complete Game while doing all of the above.

And the guy would would party like it was 1999. Because Baseball was fun. And he was having fun.

Length of playing time, distance to the fences, injuries, and other factors are part of the game. What should not be part of the game is the use of drugs to enhance performance. If a player wants to bulk up, he should get lots of protein and hit the weight room.

It was stupid to retire #42 MLB-wide. Jackie Robinson didn’t play for all those teams. Wayne Gretzky, in his final season, should have had to play at least one home game for every team in the NHL before they could retire his number league-wide.

it took Aaron 11,289 at bats to hit 714 home runs, with a career average of a home run every 16.38 at bats, Ruth in his entire career had only 8,399 at bats, hitting a homer every 11.76 at bats.

9774 at bats for bonds....quite a few more than ruth, eh?

wonder what the babe’s stats would be if he had as many.....
