(My simplifying explanation had the disconcerting side effect of making the subject incomprehensible.)

How on earth did you come up with your screen name?
That toy kit is hysterical btw.

That is a pretty scary theory, but you probably are on to something. The reason I believe that is because the guy has been so dang committed and obsessed with this and there must be a reason; not to mention how he’s basically destroyed his life physically. Now he has nothing to lose really.
According to the news release, he can get 4-5 years for the theft of those smoke detectors. If the judge is wise and looks at the big picture, maybe Hahn will get just that - 5 years.
I’m just glad I don’t live in his town - he he - but maybe we could slip him a few bucks and he could erect his little, um, er lab, over their in Hammtramck where the big Mosque is (sorry, couldn’t resist - I know it’s mean).

That was excellent! Thanks for that video. The more I’m reading about this and hearing from other Freepers on here, the creepier and weirder it gets.....

How on earth did you come up with your screen name? Just tried to think of something that nobody else would - didn't want to be GrumpyCodger491 or AngryCitizen2056.

Cant someone give this guy a job at a nuclear research lab somewhere? the guys obviously brilliant - anyone who did what he did had to be (as well as be a bit nuts), but keep him away from things that go boom!
Um, would you want to work with this guy? He doesn't care about himself, nevermind his neighbors. He's determined to get his way, even if it means stealing. Incredibly brilliant, yeah. Morals to complement his intellect? No. Sense of social responsibility? Nope. Total wild card, can't trust this guy no way, no how.

Would you wanna be his neighbor or lab partner, though?
Sure, I can respect his intellect on this one subject. I don’t know diddly about nuclear. And as long as he stays far, far away from me, I don’t *have* to. *chuckle*

It really isn't all that hard to make nitro, It's just a real dumb thing to try do in your parents basement with crude equipment.
The red crystals were probably raw RDX, The high (and unstable in that form) explosive component of military grade TNT.
Sounds like the kid was trying out the experiments in the anarchist's cook book.
I didn't know it was upgraded to include playing with nuclear material however. He somehow managed not to kill himself playing with those recipes, which are (intentionally?) written to end in failure- or worse- death.
He probably did manage to give himself cancer however. He should be locked up in the loony bin to protect him from himself. What an idiot.

Hopefully not before he poisons everyone in his neighborhood and at Starbucks." ?? That's not very nice.
Hopefully that's a typo. You DO mean you hiope they figure it out BEFORE he poisons everyone in his neighborhood, right?
To: Nathan Zachary
LOL...that was a typo...you know what I meant, though!

What don’t you understand? Erythema is a physiological response of skin and underlying tissue to damage caused by exposure to radiant energy. We were speculating as to the type of source that might induce this, as well as how one could come by such a source without access to licensed quantities of radioactive materials.
