Reminds me of Berthold Brecht's comment after the Soviet suppression of the 1953 East German uprising, that the government had decided to dissolve the people and elect a new one.

I really do not think hanging is too extreme for politicians who pull self-serving anti-democratic tricks like this. Tar and feathers and horsewhips, at the very least!
