The assassination of a well-known journalist, the arrest of members of a local Muslim group - including a man who confessed to the shooting - and seven other shootings over the last few days have left Oakland residents reeling.
The shooting death of Chauncey Bailey, the Oakland Post editor who was gunned down while walking to work Thursday morning near Alice and 14th streets, gained national attention because of the rarity in which journalists in this country are shot in the line of duty. That's something that happens in lawless or corrupt countries, not ours. Oakland police moved swiftly, raiding the group's San Pablo Avenue bakery and three other locations early Friday morning, even as public outrage over Bailey's death and the ensuing homicide spree grew. Seven people were arrested, and at least three of them could be charged today in connection with Bailey's slaying and a May kidnapping.
For some Oakland residents, especially those living in high-crime areas, the brazen daylight shooting of a public figure underscored that no one can take personal safety for granted on these streets. For others, it signaled the abysmal failure of the city's elected leaders to come up with a strategy to address the violence.
Mayor Ron Dellums, who took office in January on a pledge of creating a model city, now has some residents wondering out loud what kind of model he had in mind. So far, it seems our Quiet Mayor must have been talking about a guide titled "How Not to Run a City."
"I don't talk about leadership in this city anymore, because we don't have any," said Andy Friend, co-founder of West Watch, a neighborhood watch group of about 50 members in West Oakland. "We continue to hit low points, and we seem to hit new lows every....

How about this for a solution: issue CCWs for all qualifying(read lawful)residents of CA, this would go a long way toward ending the “violence”, if these people wait for the government to protect them they are NEVER going to quell the crime in Oakland and SF, not to mention LA.
As long as left wing wackos etc keep getting elected as mayors
this will be par for the course
The MSM doesn’t have a blueprint for how to handle a story such as this.
The journalist was investigating a Muslim bakery and some financial irregularities with that business, I think? So the MSM can’t be critical of the bakery that may have been a front for other criminal activity, because they are Muslim and immune to criticism per the template used by the MSM.
The journalist was from a minor newspaper, so they can’t grant him the same status as a Woodward/Bernstein type of investigative reporter from a major newspaper.
I think the MSM just doesn’t know how to report on this so the reporting has been minimal.
You must not know that CA means California. Most of the residents would be horrified by the very idea of taking up arms. Or at least that is the way it looks now to this ex-Californian.
For others, it signaled the abysmal failure of the city’s elected leaders to come up with a strategy to address the violence.
Uhh, it’s called liberalism. Ohhh the diversity, the multiculturalism...and they wonder about ‘abysmal failure’?
The MSM needs to give us the daily body count from the 50 largest US metro areas (and break it down by political party in charge (i.e RESPONSIBLE)).
Mayor Ron Dellums... game over!
Oakland: another failure of African-American “culture”.
In the old days before leftist Liberalism newspaper editors went about armed just in case someone took umbrage with something they printed.
Wasn't Dellums preceded by Moonbeam Jerry Brown? Oakland should be a leftwing Valhalla by now.
It is a question Rush has asked many a time:name one major city in which conditions have improved after the Liberals have taken over the reins of power.
Jerry Brown sounds right. I believe he advocated ‘community living’ and/or he himself lived in a community house.
