It’s criminal negligence that resulted in the death of the boy. Do you think the drunk driver INTENDS to run over someone? Of course not... To that extent they are both accidents. It’s the negligence that in both cases that makes it a crime.

What price? Suspension with pay - is that a big price? Fired? Maybe, but probably not. In any event, he's still alive to look for other employment. Jail time, you think? I doubt it, but I've been wrong in guessing the future before.
