Disclaimer:
These pages contain a combination of preliminary, unofficial, and estimated data. The information posted here is subject to change.
  • The delegate selection processes herein, along with any and all dates associated therewith, are unofficial and based on either (1) information obtained from either Major Party, (2) Presidential Primary dates established by currently-effective State statute, or- where the foregoing information could not be obtained- (3) the state's 2004 delegate selection process and associated dates adjusted to the corresponding dates in 2008.
  • Republican delegate counts are based on the number of Republicans elected to the State Legislatures, Governors chairs, U.S. House seats, and U.S. Senators seats through 31 December 2007. Republican unpledged delegate counts are determined by state (or equivalent) party rules. We have assumed that the policies of 2004 will apply in 2008.
  • Democratic unpledged delegate counts are determined by the number of DNC Members, Democratic Governors, Democratic U.S. House members, and Democratic U.S. Senators serving at the time of the convention. Democratic "Late Primary/Caucus" Bonus Delegates are not included in these delegate tallies.

Prior to the final debates between a Republican and a Democrat, I would like to see a series of debates between the top three of each party. I think this would give the American people a good look at the candidates debating each other.

I’ve said for some time that this rush to front-load the primaries is going to eventually backfire big time for one of the two parties. They’re going to de facto nominate a candidate in February of some year (not necessarily 2008) and then have a story come out that will absolutely destroy that candidate before the actual convention six months later rendering him totally unelectable.

What will the party do? Throw all the primary results overboard and select a better candidate at the convention or argue that the candidate must be nominated anyway because he’s the rightful winner of all those delegates?

As invasive and nasty as politics has become, it is not hard to imagine this happening because the delegates are being committed before the vetting is complete. It used to be a candidate could wrap up the nomination until May or June. Now, they could have it by February - and the Party conventions have been pushed back from mid-summer to early fall. That all makes the window between commitment to a nominee and the election broader, making it more likely that eventually the skeleton will fall out of the closet sometime between March and August.

By the end of February, surely by early March, we should know who the nominees will be. I suppose it is possible that in the GOP with the many candidates, that the vote could split so much that no clear winner would be determined, but once a candidate wins some big primaries, momentum will take its course.

LOL! Your post couldn't possibly relate to Rudi Giuliani, John McCain, Newt Gingrich, or other R candidates with 2 or more wives. Their personal lives have already been dissected to the Nth degree, thereby obscuring any detailed discussion of these candidates' positions on Iraq, social security, health care, and other important political issues.

I wasn’t thinking of any particular candidate and, given how difficult it is to shame a Democrat on anything, it might not even apply to them.

But let’s say someday the nominee gets through March with enough delegates to ensure their nomination then it turns out that he/she bankrolled a dogfighting ring like Michael Vick or was revealed to be conspiring with Al Qaeda or something else so repugnant that the candidate was dead meat politically. What would their party do?

I’m listening to Laura Ingraham’s replay on WABC radio, and Hunter will be interviewed next. You can listen online.

Romney said he wants to make China a partner. Is he insane?

Romney will take our money to give us horrible healthcare, and then the Chinese will attack us, if he has his way.
