SC: Two Muslims apprehended with bombs and bomb-making materials, FBI says no known link to terror

Goose Creek - Two men are being held in the Berkeley County Detention Center after police find explosive making devices in their car. The quantity of explosive making materials in that vehicle is unclear. The FBI (website) reports that there is no known link to terrorism. The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office believes that among materials in the car's trunk were a bomb and bomb making materials that include chemicals, fuses, and igniters.

The men 21-year-old Yousef Megahed and 24-year-old Ahmed Mohamed were pulled over Saturday evening during a routine traffic stop near Myers Road and Highway 176. Few details about the suspects are known at this time. They are believed to be students at a Florida college. They are of Middle Eastern descent and are not US citizens. Neither man has been charged, but charges are expected Monday. A press conference will be held in Berkeley County on Monday morning. Possession of unlawful explosives is among the potential charges. Officials are not at this time releasing any additional information. The Berkeley County Sheriff's office may confirm what exactly was found in that trunk during Monday's press conference.

Had the FBI bothered to use clear, proper English, the notice would have said, “No link to known terrorist organizations that we have been able to determine so far.” That is what they meant. They ended up looking stupid. You convinced now? Of course they are terrorists. The FBI simply doesn’t know who their co-conspirators are.

It’s in Berkley? They’re probably college profs.

Well, they could’ve been “independent”, so technically not “linked with ‘Terrorism, Inc.’”

What the FBI said was absolutely correct: truthful. Right now, they do not know about these two idiots or the links they have.

But the FBI has a history of making dubious pronouncements on these matters.

One such FBI pronouncement I heard was on 9/11/01, a few minutes after 9 am, in words very similar to this (if not exactly): "The FBI has released a statement that this is not a terrorist attack."

The broadcaster of that FBI statement was WABC radio, in New York City. And I trust that WABC radio was honestly relaying an official statement of the FBI; WABC is hardly a liberal purveyor of disinformation (it's Rush Limbaugh's and Mark Levin's flagship station).

“Unfortunately since all Muslims have been called to conduct Jihad there need not be any direct link to any group at all. There are millions of guys like these who are willing and able to answer the call as free lancers”

Very good point!

I have no disagreement with the observation that there have been far too many times when incidents have been prematurely declared to have had nothing to do with terrorism. I too have found that more than a little irritating. There are other ways they could word the early press releases that would give more confidence that terrorism is actively being considered as the motive.

My point is that this article, as sketchy as it is, is not saying that it has nothing to do with terrorism. I’m prepared to wait and see whether there is any further fallout.

WOW! They’re smiling!

I’ve never seen a Moslem smile, especially not in a line-up.

Seems like we grab quite a few of these guys in “routine traffic stops”
I assume Routing traffic cop is FBI for “ We’ve been tracking and stinging these guys and needed a constitutionally , PC acceptable way to bring em in”

True.
But to report it before you have evidence gets you sued, and gets these guys out of jail.
Report it.
Investigate it.
Keep them in jail.
Do it any other way and you give the ACLU their day in the sun.
Sucks, but I seriously doubt the guys and gals at the FBI dont know whats going on- they are just playing with the hand they are dealt.

“The FBI reports that there is no known link to terrorism.”
And I report that the FBI has no known link to working brains.

I suppose these idiots would say there is no link to crime if they found burglary tools and loot in a car.

They have no known links to terrorism. It's not the same thing as They are not linked to terrorism.

So they're free-lancers. So what? They sure have a link now.

If they committed illegal possession of certain explosives...
it's time to book 'em, try 'em, convict 'em, then sentence them
to the max allowed and put them in the slammer.

To do otherwise would be, in the words of Bogart:
"Bad for business"

Additionally, I think it might be appropriate to say
“ Thank-you for catching these lil #$^@#$#$ ‘s before they killed innocent people”

Now, as for the no known link to terrorism, we all know its BS.
We are in a society that is just waking up and still a little sleepy, which means the bad guys are being portrayed as good, and the good guys bad, and no one has been able to change it...yet.
We are actually doing this here, right now, with this thread. We are insulting the guys who just saved lives. Shameful.
Lets send the officers that caught these guys some beers and focus on keeping watch on our own little area, and keep each other up to date on happenings so we can get through this thing together....
