SC: Two Muslims apprehended with bombs and bomb-making materials, FBI says no known link to terror

Goose Creek - Two men are being held in the Berkeley County Detention Center after police find explosive making devices in their car. The quantity of explosive making materials in that vehicle is unclear. The FBI (website) reports that there is no known link to terrorism. The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office believes that among materials in the car's trunk were a bomb and bomb making materials that include chemicals, fuses, and igniters.

The men 21-year-old Yousef Megahed and 24-year-old Ahmed Mohamed were pulled over Saturday evening during a routine traffic stop near Myers Road and Highway 176. Few details about the suspects are known at this time. They are believed to be students at a Florida college. They are of Middle Eastern descent and are not US citizens. Neither man has been charged, but charges are expected Monday. A press conference will be held in Berkeley County on Monday morning. Possession of unlawful explosives is among the potential charges. Officials are not at this time releasing any additional information. The Berkeley County Sheriff's office may confirm what exactly was found in that trunk during Monday's press conference.

Recently I read that there are more mosques in England than churches.

That is BS — ever little village has a church. However, I can believe that the attendance at mosques might be higher than church attendance

It seemed fitting, and still does, imho.

Bush is fighting the valant battle!!

By leaving the back door wide open to one million unaccounted-for people each year?

I don't need a history lesson, thanks for posting that anyway. It's a shame you have come here to call people sheep who are so far from that.

I know things really started in 1979 and that the peanut farmer should have taken some action. I was very young at the time but thought so then. Bush seemed to be the first one to take things seriously enough to do something about that region, and I was grateful... until I realized how much else he was leaving out. And all the excuses of "wait until he wins the second term," "wait until he has more time," "wait until so and so wins to support him," blah blah rang hollow.

Why bloviate if you aren't going to follow up on things at home (the borders) and run a PC war? He's breaking the oath of office he swore to uphold.

You did a good job.

In your life expect some trouble
But when you worry
You make it double

Wish I could learn not to worry!

Me, too; but, there are times when there is reason to worry.

I’m a bit tired of being told not to worry when there’s obviously something very wrong here.

It would be ironic if one or both were the two Muslims chased through Georgia to the college in Florida after 911. The media made the poor women who reported the incident out to be a backwoods, red-neck, racist.

When terrorists and terror states, who read the international news, and see this kind of reaction from the US (no known ties to terorism), they are emboldened to send even MORE through to persist until they reach their goal, and blow more of us up.

Does the FBI and politically correct media realize how they are setting the stage for even more sleeper cells to be activated, or otherwise brought into the USA to finally succeed, where those two scumbags were busted??

I don’t know about this one, overtaxt. I’ve read a bunch of hysterical articles and a lot more hysterical posts here, but as far as I can see, they had commercial fireworks, and a fairly small amount at that. Almost all of the articles are very very vague, typical of the fear mongering MSM (”CHEMICALS were found in a TRUCK outside a SCHOOL! Film at 11...”)

If someone can point me to a source that has details on just what was found, I’d appreciate it.

Until I see just what the extreme danger was, I see this a college kids with fireworks who got pulled over for speeding, and agreed to let LEO search the vehicle.

At least they were not transporting Mooninite LED signs.

OK, I checked up on some legal issues.

Used to be, you could buy the chemicals and cardboard tube and Visco fuse and make your own M80s. Without going into details, you made flash powder and put it in the tube.

BATFE noticed that almost all accidental explosive fatalities involved flash powder, so they declared it to be a High Explosive, now you need a Fed license to make it/ store it/ etc.and in some states you need a pyro license. Photographic or theatrical flash powder can be sold as a binary to be mixed in small quantities. Making your own flash and packing it in your own tubes is a serious crime now!

I checked three of the online shops that sell pyro chemicals and they all warn of heavy penalties for doing what was once commonplace.

So if these guys had a home made M80 or three, they are now in big trouble for illegal explosives manufacture, possession, plus possession of bomb making supplies if they had empty cardboard tube.

So a question for y’all, any Freepers ever make your own crackers? In the past, of course; it’s illegal now.

One of the most recent articles says that the charges are now “possession of an incendiary” or something like that.

The Millennium Bomber, otoh, had urea, ammonium nitrate, RDX, HMX, and a bunch of other things to make a car bomb with a couple hundred pound yield. That was a hazard fer sur.

OK, I was wrong!

They had sugar/ sodium nitrate and a bunch of other stuff including plastic pipe.

Lawyer (inexplicably) say that the two men had a use for the things?

They still could be amateur pyros; I know of more than one instance where a “large homemade device” was unleashed on a patch of desert from a suitable distance.

But in today’s climate even buying 6” pipe nipple and caps can put an anglo under suspicion let alone young ME men driving too fast.

Pyrotechnicians and Bugs fans will both get this, but in different ways- “What a maroon!”

A box of potassium Nitrate

A pound of sugar

A gallon of gasoline

4 model rocket launchers

4 model rocket electrical ignitors

several lengths of PVC pipe including one stuffed with the potassiun nitrate/sugar mixture

This would be a smoke mixture, not a KABOOM Mixture (I thought there was supposed to be a Ka-Boom?)
