GOOSE CREEK, S.C. --Two men were detained after police found and detonated a suspicious item found in their car during a routine stop for a speeding violation on a highway near Charleston, Berkeley County sheriff's Lt. Vince Lombard said Sunday morning.
Lombard said the men were being held pending a charge of unlawful possession of an explosive device, but he would not say what the device was or what bomb technicians from neighboring Charleston County exploded about 2:45 a.m. Sunday.
The item made a loud bang, similar to a firecracker, when it was demolished.
Authorities closed the road about 7 p.m. and federal officials later said there was "no immediate threat."
The car was heading west on U.S. Highway 176, away from Goose Creek and the Naval Weapons Station there, Lombard said. The facility also houses the U.S. Naval Consolidated Brig, a military prison where enemy combatants have been held. The traffic stop took place about 7 miles from the sprawling Navy facility.
A mile-long stretch of U.S. Highway 176 was reopened about 4 a.m. Sunday.
A reporter with WCBD-TV said she saw a robot remove something from the trunk of the car earlier in the evening, but that the item was not immediately moved from the scene.
South Carolina law enforcement Chief Robert Stewart told The Associated Press that his officers were on the scene, but that the FBI was handling the case and he did not elaborate.
Goose Creek, with a population of about 30,000, is located about 20 miles north of Charleston.
That is what CNN and Reuters also claims. But what the heck were these reportedly college students doing with those items in their car? Surely not a fraternity prank or chemistry class project.
The local station hasn't posted still photos of the mugshots, unfortunately. To view the photos (briefly), you have to go to the video embedded on the news4 page you linked.
Maybe some FReeper knows how to capture the mugshots and post them as stills here.
Sure are smile-y, friendly looking fellas, aren't they? No doubt their cell leaders have wised up and instructed them to smile for the camera. (Makes it easier for our media dupes and CAIR to cry foul and proclaim "no links to terrorism" and "the only crime committed here was racial profiling!")
Kudos again to the SC Police.
Goose Creek - Two men are being held in the Berkeley County Detention Center after police find explosive making devices in their car. The men had atleast one ready to go bomb and bomb making materials that include chemicals. The men 21-year-old Yousef Megahed and 24-year-old Ahmed Mohamed (seen in the video attachment) were pulled over Saturday evening during a routine traffic stop near Myers Road and Highway 176. Among the explosive devices found were igniters and fusers. Few details about the suspects are known at this time. They are believed to be students at a Florida college. They are of Middle Eastern descent and are not US citizens. Neither man has been charged, but charges are expected Monday. A press conference will be held at the Berkeley County Sheriffs office Monday at 11:30 in the morning. Among the potential charges is possession of unlawful explosives. Officials are not at this time releasing any additional information on the number of charges or types of explosive devices they found. Highway 176 in Goose Creek was shut down and has since reopened. Stay tuned to ABC News 4 and www.abcnews4.com for details as they become available.

Interesting...If it was fireworks they would have gotten a ticket I would think...
Don’t forget Tampa ... central FL ... where Sami al-Arian sprouted many cells at the Univ. of S. Fla .. and funded terror; where Adnan al-Shukrijumah (former Floridian -Lauderdale) was spotted on Dale Mabry Ave. about 4-5 yrs ago.
And, than allegedly spotted by the Univ. of Central FL campus, and coincidentally, all that far from Venice ... where jihadis were sent for flight lessons from the German flight school owner.
Still worried about the anniversaries (Nagasaki and Hiroshima) coming up this week.

This was an ordinance I found for Ontario County, California (I couldn't find one for Berkeley County); the laws obviously vary county to county, but I bet many counties have similar laws:
IF I USE, POSSESS OR TRANSPORT ANY TYPE OF FIREWORKS IN ONTARIO, COULD I BE FINED, ARRESTED OR CITED?In May 2007, the Ontario City Council adopted an ordinance reaffirming the existing ban on all fireworks within the city, without a permit. This ordinance declared that fireworks, explosives and destructive devices were transient nuisances and assigned a $1000.00 fine to those found in violation of the ordinance. In addition to the $1000.00 Administrative penalty, you could be issued a citation requiring a court appearance resulting in additional fines, a misdemeanor conviction, and/or imprisonment in the county jail or state prison. If you have over 1 pound of fireworks powder, you may be arrested and charged with a felony that may result in state prison time.

Why did the road have to be closed some 9 hours.
Seems like law enforcement closes roads on a whim when no real danger is present.
lol

Czar, can we elect you judge....or get you appointed somehow?
You’d do a stupendous job!
On second thought....mayhaps you could replace Chertoff....he’s already said he can’t do the job he was hired to do.
I’m sure Chertoff will jump right on this one...
BQ, is it just me, or have you noticed how much of a comedian Czar’s become of late? : )
The article says they found “explosive making devices” which sounds less threatening than having found “explosives”.
Sounds simply like it may have been a device to make bombs. Right?
