GOOSE CREEK, S.C. --Two men were detained after police found and detonated a suspicious item found in their car during a routine stop for a speeding violation on a highway near Charleston, Berkeley County sheriff's Lt. Vince Lombard said Sunday morning.
Lombard said the men were being held pending a charge of unlawful possession of an explosive device, but he would not say what the device was or what bomb technicians from neighboring Charleston County exploded about 2:45 a.m. Sunday.
The item made a loud bang, similar to a firecracker, when it was demolished.
Authorities closed the road about 7 p.m. and federal officials later said there was "no immediate threat."
The car was heading west on U.S. Highway 176, away from Goose Creek and the Naval Weapons Station there, Lombard said. The facility also houses the U.S. Naval Consolidated Brig, a military prison where enemy combatants have been held. The traffic stop took place about 7 miles from the sprawling Navy facility.
A mile-long stretch of U.S. Highway 176 was reopened about 4 a.m. Sunday.
A reporter with WCBD-TV said she saw a robot remove something from the trunk of the car earlier in the evening, but that the item was not immediately moved from the scene.
South Carolina law enforcement Chief Robert Stewart told The Associated Press that his officers were on the scene, but that the FBI was handling the case and he did not elaborate.
Goose Creek, with a population of about 30,000, is located about 20 miles north of Charleston.
Gosh darn if they don't look like contestants on American Idol.
This Megahed has that same nose.
The tunnel is a different story. I think a blast in the tunnel, unless somehow "directed" towards the ceiling would end up being more like a pipe bomb, with the blast dissipated out either side. Anyone inside the tunnel at the time of the blast would be in serious trouble but I don't know if the tunnel itself would be permanently out of action. The tunnel runs under the riverbed and any blast would have to burst through several feet of material before the river itself breached the tube. Before 9/11 they would fill the tunnel with cars. After 9/11 they only allow enough traffic in on either side to fill the customs plazas, which are outside. Under these circumstances it would certainly be a suicide mission and I don't think it would be very successful.
In any case, semis carrying freight do not use the tunnel as a rule. It is mainly utilized by passenger vehicles.
We need a maps keyword section up there at the top of the page. Can we add one? Sometimes arcane but incredible maps are posted that would be nice if we could have quick access to. Tanks very much if we can do it.
I was thinking since the crescent moon is on musim flag that maybe it was a cresent moon on 911 . But it wasn’t it was a half moon . Aug.19th has had several predictions lately . So I went to search and clicked on moon phase . Aug.19th is a half moon also . searched Aug.19th terror predictions , lots came up .
Aug.19th and Sept.11 the moon was in a half moon phase . Am I getting too much info or what ?
No I didn’t see this - thanks for the ping.
I don’t think this was just a whim with no real danger present. I believe these two were up to something serious and got caught, thank God. I also don’t think the media/LEO are being completely honest with us either (not that I’m surprised about that).
Comment:
You pegged it right on the money.
The MSM media in this country is not being truthful with us about the news they are reporting.
We on FR have known this for years but it seems the rest of the country wants to be fool..s.
Thanks for your good work. And bumping this thread.
That is a great question!
In my bucolic, small-town New Jersey neighborhood, an Islamic group is attempting to acquire property for a mosque and "school."
We're located a stone's throw from Picatinny Arsenal, a major Army R&D location.
I asked that too (at post 62 where I requested some technically gifted FReeper capture the mugshots from the video, which AliVeritas provided at post 88).
More than a case of GMTA? I think so. Why else would these guys smile so gaily for a police camera?
Because the South Carolina state police were making them laugh?
Has anybody seen the news conference that was scheduled for this morning?

COMMENT:
I was in Oklahoma City the day the Murrah Building was blown up.
For the next three or four days after wards many people claimed that just before the bomb went off that several Arab men were seen running form the scenes.
Channel four, nine and five also reported that Arab looking men had been spotted in the vicinity making a hurried exit.
Oklahoma City as we later learned has a large number of militant Muslims in the community.
Oklahoma City is also home to Tinker Air Force base one of the larger Air Force installations.
So the question begs to be answered by those who have more knowledge than me why so many Muslim centers are so close to military installations.
I actually had an opportunity to talk with the widow of a government agent killed that day.
She maintained that she was being told by reliable sources that Middle Eastern terrorism was involved.
So who knows what is true and what is baloney.
yw!
