Hostage Families Reject Anti-American Rallies

The families of the Korean hostages spoke out against a movement to hold the U.S. responsible for the unresolved crisis, saying anti-American demonstrations could put the hostages' lives at greater risk. The families turned down an offer by some anti-American organizations to stage a candlelight rally.

Lee Jeong-hoon, a representative of the families, said on Thursday, "Since an anti-American demonstration could have a negative influence on the negotiations for the release of the hostages, we have made efforts to avoid being involved in any such demonstrations." "An anti-American movement could be what the Taliban want," Lee said. "We rejected suggestions by some anti-American groups to hold a candlelight vigil and march to the U.S. Embassy in Korea."

The families believe the crisis must not turn into an anti-American movement, Lee added, as that could strain the talks with the Taliban and worsen the situation for the hostages.

Cha Sung-min, a leading representative of the hostages' families, also expressed concern about the calls of some groups to abandon the Korea-U.S. alliance. "We are afraid of being seen as being in line with the anti-American groups. All we want is the hostages returned safely. We ask that the various groups put their political arguments on hold and plead to the international community for their safe return," Cha said.

Knee-jerk anti-Americanism is losing its steam fast. As it stands, there is more chance that this incident backfire on S. Korean left, who ended up undermining S. Korea's relation with U.S., thuse effective cooperation between the two in the time of crisis, as a result of their unending demonization of U.S., and ludicrous sympathy for Talibans(actually they sympathize with any and all antiAmerican entity.)

Looking from this angle, their antiAmerican activity of late is partly to deflect blame away from them.

I say fine...let’s pull all of our troops out and quit trading with them....then we’’ll see how long it takes for them to be anti-american because we’re putting them in poverty, IF the north doesn’t bomb them first!

These people are dedicated Christians, by and large (the captives are missionaries). They may think America could be doing more to help them, but they aren’t angry lefty Sheehan types, nor do they appear to be interested in being the tools of such types.

God bless them in their time of trial, and let His will be done.

Ah, the South Korean nutroots movement. As left wing as they get, and ready to sell South Korea out to its Northern retarded brother.

You know, it would be a good exercise in the proper use of our diplomacy/military usage to test South Korea, Japan, Germany and everywherse else to tell them,”You need to protect your own sovereignty....not us!” We could be a stronger ally if we did that...and they helped by developent of a stronger military internally.

I would pray for a dramatic rescue, by none other than the American special forces in Afghanistan themselves, with all S. Korean Christian hostages safe and free, and bearded Taliban scum plugged one after another and sent off to their virgins.

I can dream, can't I?

I wonder what so many of those smug, self-righteous, spoiled brat Generation Y South Korean anti-American types in the streets of Seoul would even say, or how the smiles from their face would be wiped right off.

That would be a real win-win. I so hope such a longshot could be pulled off.

I would agree with your position in theory, Stayfree, but as my family’s experience has taught me, it should be some time yet before particularly Germany, and to a lesser degree, Japan, needs to significantly remilitarize. There needs to be a decent interval (on an historic level) for what happened not too long ago.

The Left in every country have their elements (like International ANSWER types) who use any excuse to have an Anti-American bash-fest and will use any incident currently in vogue in the media to draw attention to their ideas. SK is no different.

I suppose it's worse in SK only in the sense that they actually are in a state of war w/ NK and most of those losers are sympatico w/ them.

Lee Jeong-hoon, a representative of the families, said on Thursday, "Since an anti-American demonstration could have a negative influence on the negotiations for the release of the hostages, we have made efforts to avoid being involved in any such demonstrations." This sounds like a very wise women using her mind instead of knee jerk anti-Americans that will only enhance negativity in the worst of siutation. If there is anyone besides God that can help these good Korea people it will be a coordinated American effort.

The second thing is how terribly these idiot groups pounce on the devastated families trying to hold it all togeter, praying, and more prayer...I'm happy these "anti-Americans were snubbed. maybe this will be the new catch phrase when the moonbats come a knockin,' STU and GTF OUT."
