Two people were wounded in a Las Vegas Strip casino Saturday after a man knocked down in a fist fight retrieved a gun and opened fire, police reported.
The gunshots rang out soon after a fight involving several people began about 4 a.m. near an elevator leading to a parking garage at the Caesars Palace hotel-casino, said Officer Ramon Denby of the Las Vegas Metro Police Department.
"Blows were landed, one guy was knocked to the floor," Denby said. "The gentleman who was knocked to the floor got into the elevator, went upstairs and got a firearm."
The man returned and opened fire as he stepped out of the elevator, Denby said. He hit one man in the leg and another in the arm.
The two were taken to University Medical Center, but their wounds were not believed to be life-threatening, Denby said.
"Investigators are now in the process of reviewing surveillance tape and talking to witnesses," Denby said, adding five people were detained as persons of interest.
No one was immediately arrested and the identities of the two wounded men were not immediately released.
Denby said the dispute was between two groups of people and police were investigating whether it may have been gang-related.
Caesars' spokesman Ken Langdon did not immediately respond to a cell phone message left Saturday seeking comment.
The shooting was the second inside a Las Vegas Strip casino in the past month.
A man police described as emotionally troubled opened fire July 6 inside the New York-New York casino, wounding four people.
