Vick dogfighting case opens up racial divide

RICHMOND, Va. - The difference between those sporting Michael Vick jerseys and those urging his swift conviction on dogfighting charges is glaring: Vick’s supporters are mostly black; his critics are mostly white.

The racial divide emerged early in the case against the Atlanta Falcons quarterback, apparent at rallies filled with cheering — and overwhelmingly black — Vick supporters and at anti-Vick protests that are noticeably white.

Vick’s opponents say the evidence against him is overwhelming. For many black supporters, that judgment evokes uncomfortable questions about race and guilt in America.

“White folks 'been grindin’ on an ax ... and that ax ain’t got sharp enough for them,” said Earnest Hardy Sr., who called the case a witch hunt targeting a successful black man.

Why in the world would white Atlanta - mostly all Falcons fans - want Michael Vick to be convicted and out of football for a few years, if not forever?

The real culprit is the black community itself - or a large section of it - for tolerating without severe censure this sort of criminal and thuggish behavior

The dog fighting is only scratching the surface of this story, as if that was not bad enough, he also killed many of the weaker dogs by drowning, beating, electrocuting, & hanging them. those are all serious crimes.

It'll be interesting to see, since you seem kind of neutral on it.

I was surprised by the rancor I raised after only a few posts glorifying dog fighting and suggesting that it's an important part of a dog's life and the only humane thing to do.

Only to have that outrage surpassed with I let slip that I don't believe animals can feel pain.

Do you have any info on emu fighting you mention? Sounds exotic!

I predicted this race card more than two weeks ago. I knew they were going to play the race card and start telling the world that it is about whites taking down successful black men.
Don’t worry about it. Vick may have a lot of money, but he is not a man. Real men are good fathers and husbands and don’t get all tied up in bloodsports. I’ll wait for the verdict but the evidence against him is growing every day. One of his employees, another black person, is going to take a deal and testify against Vick. Please take note that this is a black person who will be testifying against Vick and watch as they try and blame this on the white race as well. I think I can hear his ship sinking from here. What a sweet sound it is.

Ok, they are now PC crimes. My grandmother used to say the most painless way to kill kittens was to drown them in a sack. You wouldn't say nothing bad about my grandma to my face either. My wife had 27 cats when I met her, her mother probable had your tagline across her face. People dropped off animals by the dozen I figure. When we started dating seriously, I made it clear, there was never gonna be more than two animals if we married. Against the law or not, I know how to get rid of a stray fairly fast, grandma did in her way too.

Just made it up Owl, I have never been to an animal fight in my life, don't care to, but have several family members in our history the did quite often. They were decent folks too.

Many blacks are taught that racism mean whites hurting blacks only. Earnest Hardy Sr is obviously a racist pig who refuses to believe a black man can be wrong. It’s all a matter of race to these types , everything , every issue is all about RACE to them . Sick .I guess they don’t see that people are real real sick of the race crap at this point.
