It's super V-chip to the rescue of kids

WASHINGTON (Hollywood Reporter) - The Senate Commerce Committee approved legislation Thursday asking the Federal Communications Commission to oversee the development of a super V-chip that could screen content on everything from cell phones to the Internet.

Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., the sponsor of the Child Safe Viewing Act, claims that the new law is necessary because content is no longer confined to the TV or radio, and he contends the same technology that allows content to increasingly migrate from device to device also can be used to empower parents.

"It's an uphill battle for parents trying to protect their kids from viewing inappropriate programming," Pryor said. "I believe there is a whole new generation of technology that can provide an additional layer of help for these parents."

The bill requires the FCC to review, within one year of enactment, technology that can help parents manage the vast volume of video and other content on television or the Internet.

More invasive technology courtesy of the hypocritical Democrats (the same Democrats who bitch about Bush's wiretapping program).....but hey, "it's for the children".

I swear if I hear these scum-sucking neolibs say "it's for the children" one more time, I'll puke.

Sounds like a back door effort to regulate and censor the internet.

This is government rescuing parents from their responsibilities. Pretty soon we will be able to blame the government for pedophilia because Al Gore’s internet brought it into our living rooms.

Recent advances in the world of on-line gaming have made it possible for your nieces and nephews to access some pretty hardcore stuff with their video-game consoles.

They don't have to be particularly smart to do so either.

It's worth noting that manufacturers actually have filters and other limitations in place to control access of those under 18 to those parts of their game systems that would allow inappropriate use by children.

To one degree or the other every system presently used can be bypassed by a determined child.

This "problem" ~ giving parents full control of content filtering ~ cannot be resolved with a simplistic idea like a "v chip".

I don’t know about your State, but the liberals in Wa would use the law to go after Christians long before pedophiles.

The buffoons in Congress are absolutely obsessed with taking TOTAL CONTROL over us. We really need to do something before this goes any further. I know the those morons in Congress are bored and have nothing to do but controlling what “the children” are watching on TV is not the ****ing job.

"It's an uphill battle for parents trying to protect their kids from viewing inappropriate programming,"

Baloney. It's a trivial exercise in responsibility and good parenting. Getting government involved in monitoring and censoring information "for the sake of the children" is a gross imposition on everyone else.

I look forward to providing a free V-chip to every parent that requests it. That shouldn’t cost that much, because most of the parents obsessed with fear that their children might be exposed to something naughty are not going to allow new-fangled gadgets like telee-o-phones in their homes in the first place.

As far as the typical parent is concerned, unless it is really hideous, it is not going to damage their kid, and if it is, they just take it away from them and tell the kid that it is hideous. Most kids actually do listen to their parents, though they don’t admit it.

And kids really appreciate it when their parents give them the benefit of the doubt, and let them learn judgment along the way. There are even times when good parents show their kids something hideous, just so they will know what hideous is. Rare is the kid who will be attracted to it after that.

I don’t get it. It is the RATS who brought decadence into our homes and destroyed the morality of this nation. Now they want to regulate what they endorsed as Democrat party policy.

Sorry, the horse is out of the barn. If I want my kids not to watch something on TV, go to a web site or play any adult type games, I will control that, not nanny Kerry & company.

They have a problem with content the children watch on t.v., but don’t have a problem shoving the homosexual lifestyle into public shchools. What a bunch of hypocritical idiots. Any parents for this need to take back their childrens lives from the t.v. or shutup. I have seen somethings innapporiate for children with no ratings on them. So the v-chip would be useless on those programs.

Don’t worry, some 14 year old will break it in a week after it’s out. :p

Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., the sponsor of the Child Safe Viewing Act

Is the homosexual lifestyle into public schools safe
for young children?

What does Sen. Barney Frank think about child
safety.

They don't call it "problem, reaction, solution" for nothing. The RATS created the problem, the RATS get a reaction from the sheeple who demand something be done, and then the RATS offer the solution which is to force everybody to have invasive technology.

The RATS b*tch all the time about "problem, reaction, solution" about Bush's policies, but they only do so in order to cover up for their own high crimes against the United States of America. They are TOTAL hypocrites.

I prefer the name Dick Armey used in reference to him. :)

I don’t dare mention that name because I would probably be banned. :)

While they're at it, why don't the approve legislation asking the Federal Communications Commission to oversee the development of a super chip that could track down terrorists, balance the budget, and make thousands of julienne fries in seconds?

Morons.
