| WASHINGTON, Aug. 3, 2007 The military surge of additional troops into Iraq seems to be working, U.S. Central Commands top enlisted leader said.
The surge was brought in to create a time span where the Iraqi forces and Iraqi government could go ahead and get some momentum going, Marine Sgt. Maj. Jeffrey A. Morin, the senior enlisted leader for U.S. Central Command, said during an interview Aug. 1. |
Harry Reid is deeply concerned because he already knows that “the war is lost” and Hillary Clinton wants to know when we can surrender so that we can get back to Clintonista scams and scandals.
Real Americans, however, are very encouraged by all the indications that much progress is being made.

An interesting question is, why are Democrats so invested in American defeat in Iraq?
The answer: To break the hold on defense and national security that Republicans have enjoyed for generations. The Dems want to hand the GOP a military defeat.
A majority of voters have long turned to the GOP in matters of national security. Its instinctive. Times of danger call for a Republican in The White House.
Ever since Vietnam, the Democrats have been known as the anti-war, anti-defense, anti-Pentagon party. They opposed the Reagan defense buildup most especially the Strategic Defense Initiative, or Star Wars as Ted Kennedy cycnically dubbed it even though it led to the demise of the USSR (a thesis the Dems reject). Clinton used the end of the Cold War to disinvest in the military and increase social spending.
The Dems now realize that in a post-9/11 world, theirs is no longer a viable position. But they cant simply declare themselves pro-defense and pro-national security. Thats not credible. It takes more than mere declarations to convince voters. The Dems must somehow dislodge the GOP. They must break the connection in voters minds between Republicans and national security. The Dems see defeat in Iraq as the way to do that.
If Republicans can be associated with defeat in Iraq the way that Democrats are associated with defeat in Vietnam, the playing field will be leveled, according to the Dems way of thinking. Thats why they want us to lose in Iraq. If we lose there, then voters will no longer naturally turn to the GOP as the strong defense, pro-national security party. The legacy of Vietnam would finally be dispelled. Both the Republicans and the Democrats would have a military defeat on their hands.
