A (Non)Energy Bill
IBD ^ | August 3, 2007

Energy: While the Russians plant their flag on the Arctic seabed, Speaker Nancy Pelosi plants a white flag on the House floor. While the world seeks more energy, her energy bill seeks more lawsuits.

We are not making this up. Tucked away in HR 3221, the energy-less bill that Pelosi hopes to pass before the August recess, are various mandates for federal agencies to cut their greenhouse-gas emissions.

Part of the bill then lets U.S. individuals (aka trial lawyers) sue the feds for up to $1.5 million each per year. That will save the Earth.

Can you say class-action lawsuit? At least we know that John Edwards has something to fall back on if the price of haircuts rises. That said, we don't expect Pelosi to see that the way to cut the government's CO2 emissions is to shrink the size of the government.

Her bill is a stripped-down version of the Senate bill and doesn't include things like renewable energy mandates and raising fuel-economy standards. But while it rewards trial lawyers, a companion energy tax punishes American consumers with $15 billion in taxes to pay for tax credits for renewable energy. When liberals aim for the rich, they hit Joe Sixpack between the eyes.

That lets trial lawyers like John "Breck Girl" Edwards buy more carbon offsets for their 28,000-square-foot mansions.

I think I am beginning to see the Dem’s picture - Conserving energy and removing sources from possible production - Hmmm, Is that like saying that the solution to starvation is a Gov’t. mandated diet - and since food production depletes the soil and fertilizer supplies, we need to also remove land from food production - except for artichokes and brussel sprouts since their producers have supported our campaigns better than the others. I wonder if Heir Nancy is arranging double rations for her rickshaw peddlers and is counting on the housing and medical supplements for illegals to entice them to come and serve her? Oops, forgot the elite and their minions are exempted from all inconvenience.
