When I was young, they used to have submarine races at the beach in one of the local parks.

They were bridge inspectors, no doubt. Of a sort, yep, quite possibly.

I thought it was the Port Authority that decided such things. Independent of both NY and NJ.

Exactly how much is the NYC municipal submarine tax?
Are they being charged with tax evasion?
To: Al Gator
Newsmax also reports: "Coincidentally, Cunard's Queen Mary 2 was sailing nearby when police arrived on the scene."

Reminds me of the first submarine, used by American forces during the Revolutionary War. It was called the “Turtle,” employed to affix mines to the hulls of British ships.

Exactly how much is the NYC municipal submarine tax? Are they being charged with tax evasion? Being in a commercial shipping channel in a submarine may be considered to be creating a hazard to navigation. There is not that much clearance between the bottom of the river and the draft of a large vessel

“What exactly did they do that was illegal?”
It might be considered a Hazard to Navigation. Also, perhaps the cruise ship docks are considered restricted areas. There is not that much information in the article.

It was called the Turtle, employed to affix mines to the hulls of British ships. And just by coincidence the British ship "Queen Mary II" was passing when the cops grabbed them. See my post 48

sail off Brooklyn in a makeshift submarine-type vessel.
LOL! Brings back an old memory of when I was a real little kid growing up on a lake in northern michigan. Myself and a little buddy were beachcombing and there was an abandoned propane tank the kind that looks like a small submarine. Well, had we been able to move it off the shore (and we really tried) , we'd have tried to sail it...........LOL! If anything, at least we had vivid imaginations.....
