I had my smallpox vaccination in 1945. I wonder if it is still good???

Good question, I wish I had the definitive answer. I'll see if I can find anything and ping you if I do.

I have no idea as to the validity of this website:

How long does a smallpox vaccination protect you?

Yeah that’s what it sounds like. Maybe he just found the package you never know. Seems odd.

Here is a few interesting articles on it.

Moving away from the current topic. I have a question for folks/ Noticed today at a lumber yard not far from me. That it was packed with lumber. This is unusual especially since the housing market has died here. This yard is usually close to empty. Mentioned it to my other half while we were driving by and they said it was really strange. Since we do no live in a hurricane area nor a tornado or earthquake prone area this seems a bit strange.

From what I remember when smallpox was the big focus in 2002, there is a residual immunity that persists but decreases with time. I’m not sure any definitive studies have been done since smallpox was supposedly eradicated in the 1970s.

Also depends if it is an engineered variety or not. For instance, natural smallpox required close contact for transmission. The engineered variety (the kind that infected people downwind from Resurrection Island on the Aral Sea) supposedly infected people miles away. North Korea maintained a huge stockpile of these Soviet biological agents (tons). Iran may also have them as well. After 9/11, people were concerned about stories Iraq had tried to obtain the virus as well.

I think you would need to know the structure of the engineered virus used as a bioweapon to know how much overlapping immunity would apply. No one in the U.S. (non-military) born after 1972-3, when vaccinations ceased, has any immunity whatsoever.

Ft. Campbell, KY is a massive military base. Clarksville, TN is just down the road.

“Iran authorities lash man for having bible in car - report”
Mon. 13 Aug 2007
Iran Focus

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Tehran, Iran, Aug. 13 – Iranian authorities in Tehran lashed a man on his back earlier this year for having a bible in his car, an Iranian Christian group said in a report on its website on Friday.

The man was only identified by the initials A. Sh.

On 5 May, the man, driving his vehicle, was involved in a road accident with a car belonging to security guards for a government official in Tehran.

A bible and a video of Jesus Christ were found in the man’s possession upon inspection of his vehicle by the state security forces (SSF).

A. Sh. admitted to being Christian, prompting the security agents to beat him up, the report said. He was arrested and taken to a holding cell in Detention Centre 102.”

“Man pleads guilty to terror camp charges”
By LARRY NEUMEISTER
ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “NEW YORK — An American credited with playing a key part in a probe of an Oregon terror training camp pleaded guilty to terrorism charges Monday, admitting his role after his violation of a plea agreement let the government bring more serious charges against him.

James Ujaama, a Muslim convert from Seattle, said he tried to set up the camp in Bly, Ore., in 1999 and notified a radical Islamic cleric in Britain that he and others were stockpiling weapons and ammunition in the United States.

He also admitted that between June 2000 and Dec. 19, 2001, he tried to raise money and provide other help to terrorists in Afghanistan.

Ujaama’s lawyer, Peter Offenbecher, declined to comment.

The plea in U.S. District Court in Manhattan to conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists and providing material support or resources to terrorists exposed Ujaama, 41, to a potential prison sentence of up to 30 years.

U.S. District Judge John F. Keenan set sentencing for Dec. 12.”

Russian, Chinese troops practice for war games

MOSCOW: Russian and Chinese military transport planes dropped more than 200 paratroopers and heavy weapons during a dress rehearsal on Monday for a massive joint military exercise by the two former Cold War rivals, the first on Russia’s territory.

A 1,600-member Chinese military contingent backed by aircraft, tanks and other heavy weapons has travelled to the Chelyabinsk region in Russia’s Ural Mountains for the war games, to be held on Friday and watched by the leaders of Russia, China and other members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

The SCO, which also includes four ex-Soviet nations in Central Asia, was created by Moscow and Beijing to address regional security threats, foster economic integration and counter US influence in the strategically placed, energy-rich Central Asia. The manoeuvres will follow an SCO summit in Kyrgyzstan on Thursday.

Deadly Chinese missile worries India, Israel

Deadly Chinese missile worries India, Israel

August 14, 2007 08:45 IST Last Updated: August 14, 2007 09:25 IST

India has proposed a collaboration with Israel in developing unmanned combat helicopters for the countries’ navies, a media report said.

The proposal was put forward by Chief of Naval Staff Sureesh Mehta during talks with Israel’s Navy commander Maj Gen DanBashat in New Delhi last week, investigative publication ‘DEBKAfile’ reported.

Mehta estimated that the Indian Navy would need 40-50 helicopters of this kind, the report said, adding the project would be a revolutionary step for the navies of both countries providing them with their first independent air arms.

‘India’s coastline still vulnerable’

Israel sorely missed this capability during its war with Hezbollah last year, when its vessel Hanit was hit and crippled by what was assumed to be a Chinese-made C-802 shore-to-sea missile near Beirut.

Indian warships also face the same threat as Israel since Pakistan has acquired the C-802 from China. Both have therefore opted for the same antidote, a sophisticated unmanned combat helicopter, the report said.

Iran and Syria have also acquired the C-802 missiles, it said.

The C-802, designed in China, has a range of 8 km and its ability to gain altitude on its way to target turns it into a kind of cruise missile which can fly out of range of navy vessels’ electronic defences, it said.

The shore-to-ship weapon is also armed with superior navigation, guidance and jamming capabilities.

Iran: Ahmadinejad to visit Afghanistan on Central Asian tour
ADNKronos (excerpt) ^ | August 13, 2007

Posted on 08/13/2007 2:03:34 PM PDT by HAL9000

Excerpt -

Tehran, 13 August (AKI) - The Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is due to arrive in the Afghan capital Kabul on Tuesday for a visit that will last a few hours before heading to Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan. This will be the Iranian leader’s first visit to Afghanistan since assuming office in 2005.

Ahmadinejad’s visit to Kabul, follows last week’s meeting between US president George W. Bush and his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai. At that meeting Bush said that Tehran was “not a force for good” and vowed that the US would continue its efforts to isolate it. He said that Iran had played a unconstructive role in Afghanistan.

In the past few days, even NATO sources have accused Iran of supporting the Taliban.

According to British sources, Iran has for several months been supplying arms and ammunition to the Taliban in their fight against NATO forces in Afghanistan.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RELEASE No. 20070814-07
August 14, 2007

Iraqi Army, U.S. Special Forces detain high-value rogue JAM Special Groups leader
Multi-National Corps – Iraq PAO

BAGHDAD – Soldiers from the 8th Iraqi Army and U.S. Special Forces detained a high-value rogue Jaysh al-Mahdi special groups facilitator during an early morning operation Aug. 12 in An Najaf, Iraq.

The Shi’a extremist operates the Amin Allah Cultural and Humanitarian Establishment in An Najaf and allegedly funnels humanitarian funds through the establishment in order to coordinate rogue JAM activities. The suspect is believed to use the smuggled funds for recruiting foreign fighters, training rogue JAM operatives in lethal attack tactics and trafficking illegal weapons from Iran.

The suspect is also believed to have played a prominent role in the murder of a Chief of Police in Kufa in 2004, and has allegedly facilitated improvised explosive device attacks, which resulted in several coalition deaths.

The suspect is believed to have assembled more than 200 rogue JAM members and ordered them to conduct assassinations on local citizens and government officials who oppose the group’s illegal activities.

No Iraqi or coalition members were harmed during the intelligence-driven operation.
