NYT EXAMINES MURDOCH, AILES, GIULIANI AXIS
Drudge Report ^ | 08/01/07 | Matt Drudge (probably)

Having failed to thwart a Murdoch purchase of the WALL STREET JOURNAL, the NEW YORK TIMES intensifies battle with the NEWS CORP. empire on Thursday, newsroom sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

The paper is preparing a provocative examination of Republican presidential contender Rudy Giuliani's relationship with FOX NEWS chief Roger Ailes.

MORE

TIMES reporter Russ Buettner has been pestering and pumping Murdoch executives for details on Rudy and Roger, company sources claim.

The duo "have been pulling for each other for nearly two decades," reports Buettner.

"Ailes served as a consultant to Giuliani's first mayoral campaign. Giuliani officiated at Ailes' wedding and intervened when FOXNEWS blocked from securing a cable station in the city."

NYT editors have set a Page One placement for the report, insiders claim.

FOX says the Rudy and Roger relationship "has not and will not affect coverage, but Giuliani, the frontrunner, already has more face time on the network this year than any other candidate," zaps Buettner.

Except that Mussolini made the mistake of allying himself with Hitler.

Except?

Mussolini and Hitler were self made totalitarian dictators.

Giuliani is a self made, life long liberal with authoritarian behavior patterns.

Whatever. I am not supporting Guilani for President, but one ought, IMO. to accept that he was an effective mayor, unlike those who preceded him. Before that he ran an efficient U.S. Attorney’s shop. Among the things that distinguished him ws the willingness to, a degree, to take on the employee unions—an increasingly baneful influence in Washington—and the race hustlers. And he did stay inside the Republican Party, unlike the present mayor.

>>>>>Whatever.

What I posted is relevent. The combination of liberalism mixed with authoritarianism is a deadly one-two punch. At the federal level it would be disastrous to the Republic.

>>>>>I am not supporting Guilani for President ....

Good for you.

>>>>> ... but one ought, IMO. to accept that he was an effective mayor ....

That depends on how you define effective. Giuliani ran on reducing crime and yes, making the city run more effectively. He did not reduce city services, however, and he failed to reduce spending. Spending went up 64% relative to the rate of inflation. City income tax cuts were modest and did no more then roll back the tax increases put in place by Mayor Dinkins a few years earlier. Businesses were given tax breaks and that was good. The city council realized the best way to get companies to locate/relocate inside the city limits was to reduce the tax burden.

Truth is, NYC was a high taxed socialist hell hole when I lived there. When Giuliani left office NYC was still a high taxed socialist hell hole.

The Giuliani friendly Manhattan Institute think tank, offered its evaluation of the the Mayor's years in power. They said:

"Even with the tax cuts of the last several years, New York remains by far the most heavily taxed big city in the country."

Case closed.

You concede he was an effective mayor. Maybe it was only in comparison with Dinkins, but the change in the city was for the better. I agree that NYC is a socialist state, but as the example of Europe tells us. even a “conservative” government can only make a dent in the welfare state. Blame the voters not Rudy. He’s only a politician. What do you expect?

>>>>>You concede he was an effective mayor.

You missed the point. Making the city run more effectively, while not cutting city services or reducing spending, doesn't mean he did a good job. Rooty left behind a $2-billion deficit and increased debt for the city, topping $42-billion by the time he left office. Second largest debt to the federal govt debt. An even larger debt then the entire state of California was running at the time.

>>>>>He’s only a politician. What do you expect?

I expect conservatives not to give Rooty Toot kudos for his liberalism. From a conservative perspective, Rooty`s final fiscal record as Mayor of NYC was abysmal.

The NYT is just pushing this attack because it was reported that Murdoc will be targeting the NYT directly with the WSJ.

The NYT is running scared because they can’t defend their consistent fabrication of storie sandy general lies.

But HOW could he have done better? Maybe I am more tolerant that you, but politics is the art of the possible. For example, George Washington spent many winters in the company of anti-slavery advocates like Hamilton and Jay and Linvingstone, and he came to believe that slavery was wrong. Furthermore, being a practical man, he knew from his own experience how ineffecient slavery was. While he was president, he even went so far as to try to sell his farms to get rid of his slaves, or perhaps to raise enough money to buy out the Custis heirs. He couldn’t work the deal. When one fights a very well established system, even one which until about 1800, was a system in economy decay, it is hard, hard, hard to break with it. Much of Washington’s problem was his personal involvement. He was too deeply invested in it. Now that is probably the case with Rudy. Even if he moves to the national stage, he probably will be pulled back by the sheer weight of his experiences. But he was still a better mayor than any of his predecessors for many years.

I wonder why more people and the media aren’t aware of Rudy’s ties to Mexico and the SSP as outlined here...

>>>>>But HOW could he have done better?

At this point, how he could have done better is immaterial. Conservatism is in a political war with liberalism. Been going on for the last 40+ years. Making sure the liberal Rooty Toot doesn't become the GOP nominee remains the #1 priority of this conservative forum.

>>>>>Maybe I am more tolerant that you, but politics is the art of the possible.

I have no tolerance for liberals or liberalism. Period. Liberalism is the enemy of conservatism. As a conservative I'm more concerned with advancing the conservative agenda, promoting conservative candidates for elected office and defending the Constitution. Which happens to be the stated objectives of this forum.

Get with the program or get lost.

More material is HOW it could be done NOW. The Northeast is fast becoming a liberal region. You don’t like the likes of Guiliani. So who else? Romney is the most “conservative” politician who has been elected recently. North of the Mason-Dixon line there is not a single major figure who is more so. No it has gotten even worse. The malady has spread into Virginia and even North Carolina. It won’t be long before it en compasses the whole North of the Civil War Period.

LOL You're all over the place! You defend the liberal Rooty Toot, yet you don't know the northeast has been the most liberal region of America throughout its history.

Obviously, you're some form of RudyBooster. Tolerance of liberalism is not the mark of a conservative. Btw, Romney is no conservative.

Again, get with the program or hit the road.

Liberal is a very loosey-goosey term. Applied to the period since 1933, it only gradually become more” Progressive” than, say. Wisconsin. This is owing to the spread of the urban population from the core cities, which have now blended , more or less, into a continuous strip from southern Maine to North Carolina. Compare Margaret Chase Smith with Olympia Snowe and one sees the change that has occured in the meaning of the term “liberal Republican.” Demographics is driving most of this. Upstate New York is being denuded of the peopole who used to vote Republican. New Hampshire is being taken over by people from Massachusetts who don’t mind paying higher taxes because the NH taxes theye are paying are lower.
