UK women 'least likely to care what men think'

Russian women are more worried about a man's seal of approval

Frank Sinatra advised in the song Wives and Lovers: "Don't send him off, with your hair still in curlers. You may not see him again."

However, it seems that British women couldn't care less after a survey showed they are the least likely to put effort into their appearance for the sake of men.

They have the lowest levels of concern in the world for what husbands, boyfriends and other male observers might think, with only 51 per cent caring whether men liked their appearance, the study said.

Japanese women were second bottom with 53 per cent followed by Americans at 56 per cent.

Indian, Spanish and Korean women were far more worried about having a man's seal of approval, but it was Russia which topped the poll of 10,000 women, with 77 per cent saying that they cared what their men thought.

Janet Saunders, of Clinique, the cosmetics company which commissioned the study, said: "British women like to feel confident and beautiful for their own pleasure and take pride in their outward appearance." Susan Quilliam, a relationship psychologist said: "It's a delicate balance. It's a positive thing in an equal relationship to reference the other person's tastes and preferences sometimes."

The survey also showed, that Britons are among the keenest on cosmetic surgery. Thirty five per cent of British women said they have gone, or are willing to go, under the knife for beauty.

Only Korean women were more likely to consider surgical enhancement, while just three per cent of Indian women condone it.

The survey also asked which of the 12 countries polled had the most beautiful women. Although most found their country's own women the best looking, Britons rated Italian and Indian women more beautiful than themselves.

‘But there must be something remarkable about us English people. I’m sure there is........’

Is it that we pioneered the concept of personal freedom in 1215 and then built the society, government and system of law that the US is based on? Developed the greatest language in the world and then from a small island conquered a full quarter of the worlds surface and a full third of her population, thus spreading that language and making it the language of the world? ;-)

There are “other women”?............

Like I said in another post, I met a nice girl originally from Indonesia and was quite impressed with her lady-like qualities. If the only requirement was to look at her only for the rest of my life, I think it'd be a good arrangement. I don't know how she feels about dating white guys, but I can always hope...

I never argue with Texas women in a one on one brawl, momma would have beaten me bloody if I ever struck a woman.

A lot of people forget that there were two sides to the chivalrous code: men would put women on a pedestal, but at the same time, women would conduct themselves as ladies. You'll still find plenty of men who put women on pedestals these days, but it's very difficult to find a woman who acts like a lady.

Don’t sweat it. Seriously. It’s been my experience that the men who bash women, particularly American women, are the ones who simply cannot attract anyone with a mind of their own. So, they lash out at us American gals, and beg, buy, or bribe their way into a “relationship” with a foreigner. Most of us who have a firm grasp on reality, emotional intelligence, and the concept of what is a healthy, stable realtionship know that these guys aren’t the norm and don’t represent many men on FreeRepublic.

That said, yes, there are plenty of female bashing threads here - especially compared to male bashing threads (I can’t recall seeing any of late and if there was one, rest assured, the men came in, took it over, and probably posted bikini model photos) and it’s disappointing to say the least. You just have to laugh at these guys and move on. Huh, I think that’s how these guys got so bitter and jaded in the first place: smart American women laughed at them and moved on...

Now, I have to go make dinner for my family. I’m a stay-at-home mom who: likes wearing (and looks pretty darn good in) skirts, isn’t afraid to fix my hair and face for my husband, and yet, hasn’t run off with the mailman, spent all my husband’s hard-earned money, or gained 50 pounds from laying on the couch eating bon-bons all day. ;)

There are good, decent girls in every country. Unfortunately, they are harder to find in the U.S. and the U.K.

Most of the time, you can tell by the headers in their emails that they send to you. There’s telltale signs that it is being sent by a program that hides the source.

Applies to men too.

My facile generalizations about women, based on my current work environment:

Caucasian - Oriented towards work and status, with work seen as self-expression and self-fulfillment.

Black - Social orientation - they seem to know every other Black person in the world. Gravitate towards HR work. Oral culture.

Filipino - Work is for family, not self-fulfillment. Religious. Attracted to safe, stable government jobs.

Asian - Work is for money. Perfectionists. Older generation is family-oriented, younger generation is materialistic. Despite "quiet" image, Asian-borns can be very sociable and humorous, WHEN THE WORK IS DONE. Ironically, American-born seem more reserved.

Hispanic - Susceptible to influence from Leftist community organizers. Usually not real ambitious in the workplace.

Whereas American cuisine has given us? Errr. . . . . .

I guess if they’ve got this much antagonism toward women, they’d better find one who doesn’t speak English!

I’m so glad you and the mamzelle posted about these women hating threads.

In fact, I had a post all composed about the pathetic souls who dared to lambaste American women and their need to find a woman from another country. My first thought....WHAT LOSERS THEY MUST BE!

Rush Limbaugh, the best at what he does but hardly any world wide expert on love, encourages men to be mean because, hey...if a woman is complaining about leering, boorish, insulting men....she’s gotta be ugly as hell, right?

You really are bizzare. If I lived in a country like America which has more african-american converts to Islam than the UK has total muslims, a population growth entirely fuelled by illegal immigrants due to open borders and has let in more muslims since 1995 than the UK has since 1950, I’d keep my mouth shut about other countries and worry about fixing my own, greater problems.

Seems like nowadays you are too worried about voting in the Democrats and surrendering in Iraq than whether 5% more of your women care than ours do.

Wow. Although I understand your desire to defend your country against the UK bashers, your rant above is what's known as "shooting your entire wad". I find it difficult to believe that you kept even a single insult in reserve. If this is really your opinion of the US, I can't imagine why you would be interested in joining this forum.

I think that is it is about gender stereo types. I read history and like blam I am an archeology buff. What I am speaking about is the transference of modern myth to the past. Imagine facing a Human Warrior, as skilled and as strong as you, and then gutting him and then facing another. Strength and training is the winning factor.

Then we have Xena after her third pregnancy, with a couple of rug rats biting at her toes, History is not one on one battles it is organized units against organized units.
