Permalink Why Bill OReillys Attack on FreeRepublic.com are Unfair
Bill O’Reilly’s been making waves the past few weeks by focusing on the prevalance of ‘hateful’ content at the liberal website, Daily Kos. O’Reilly is particularly disturbed to see Democratic presidential candidates agreeing to speak at the annual YearlyKos convention that will take place August 2nd through 5th.
To show balance in his reporting, O’Reilly has unfortunately chosen to target the good people who visit the conservative website, www.FreeRepublic.com. Last night O’Reilly had on his show a friend of mine, Kristinn Taylor, who is a spokesperson for Free Republic, to defend the website from O’Reilly’s criticisms.
To his credit, O’Reilly noted that the amount of controversial content at FreeRepublic pales in comparison to that which appears on a near-daily basis at DailyKos.
As someone who visits FreeRepublic each day, and as someone who has contributed to the website’s fundraising drives, I feel compelled to speak out in defense of FreeRepublic from the critical comments made by O’Reilly.
FreeRepublic.com was launched in the infancy of the Internet, serving as a source for the sharing of news stories from around the world, and the chance to have an open dialogue on these stories. Soon thereafter, FReepers (as they are known), used the website to also organize grass roots efforts to allow patriotic Americans to mobilize efforts to make their voices heard in the public square.
As the Chairman of Move America Forward, the nation’s largest pro-troop organization, I’ve seen the impact that such efforts have had. Thousands upon thousands of proud, decent Americans who love their country have become informed of Move America Forward’s countless pro-troop rallies, care package shipments and calls for help to assist the heroic men and women of the United States military thanks to Free Republic.
To equate these decent and noble efforts with those of a website like DailyKos, which routinely denounces the U.S. military and the foundations of liberty that this nation cherishes, is dishonest and unfair.
I won’t stand for that, and I urge all the members and supporters of Move America Forward to show solidarity with the great Americans who participate at FreeRepublic forums.
This September FReepers will once again use the FreeRepublic website to organize public displays of support for our troops and their missions in the War on Terror. This is the kind of good work these people do each and every day, and that deserves the respect and support from all of us who cherish this country and the leadership our nation provides in fighting the forces of tyranny and terrorism.

Re: spectacularly wrong
He also called the koran in the toilet at Pacu U a hate crime.
Apparently Mr. O’Reilly is depending too much on the research efforts of his staff. Either they are weak or he is just not that interested in the details.
I think Mr. O’Reilly failed to do his homework properly. If that means his staff, it’s still Mr. O’Reilly’s fault.
Did he cite the number of daily postings? No. Did he mention there was anything resembling widespread bigotry/hatred? No.
Did he mention that he was being discussed in a bad way. Yes.
That hardly makes the site worthy of “hate” status as he was so quick to label it.
And you know if he wants “professional” screeners, then let him provide the funds. There is a report abuse button and he didn’t mention that either.
Mr. O’Reilly, I think that was a very lame and lousy piece of work. No real effort on your part, sorry but that’s the truth.
I’ve yet to see what he says he found so readily on this site.
BUMP!
Thanks for the good word but I suggest you be careful otherwise O’Reilly will label you a hate monger! ;O)
Didn’t BOR get himself into hot water with one of his underlings?
Caught on tape being raunchy with her or something?
Is that true and what became of it?
Don’t know, and would like to hear if anyone else heard of it.
Woo hoo!! Thank you, Melanie!!
This is a FORUM not a BLOG! When will people get it straight! LOL! :)
Thanks!!!!
Melanie Morgan is a great lady who does her country proud.
Trying to get to DC for 9/15/2007 to support our troops and see some of my Freeper family out there.
Leo
My guess is that Bill O’Reilly thinks the same about Melanie Morgan as he does about Free Republic. :-(
ping!
O’Reilly’s high viewer ratings may well prove to be his downfall. Power corrupts.
well,
bill’s
going to hafta change
his attitude
or
i’m
not
listening to bill anymore.
Bill tries to extend a show based upon straight talk into the ability to analyze everythings worth.
This utilitarian viewpoint is not so far removed from the Rationalism he says is undermining Traditionalism.
He has chosen a hard road to principles.
To stay on top, he tries to be early in his analysis of social happenings and base opposition to or for government or public action on snapshot early impressions.
It is good to have a commentator ready to speak his mind but Bill ought to let the fact checkers and deliberation take a day or two to allow his considerations to fully inform his positions.
The biggest example was his first day overall approval of the Amnesty bill.
It is more then unfair it is a direct assault on our country and shows how controled we are by PC. The public at large has been indoctrinated that “hate” is so bad that any implication, relationship, smear or suggestion is almost toxic to the accused. To whit the reaction here to this malicious lie. Many people have been running around like a chicken with their head cut off looking at threads and hoping for some outside conformation that we are not a “hate site”. Anyone who has been coming here for any amount of time and doesn’t now the tenor of this site without “checking” is completely indoctrinated. We are so eat up with PC in this country that we will do anything to not be a “hater” even back away form righteous convictions and principals. Weather the accusations are true or not has almost become academic as merely the implication is all that is needed. We will lose this country if we don’t throw of the power of PC. God help us!
