The creation of a fictional world allows one almost unlimited room for social commentary. Observe Gulliver's Travels which was scathing social commentary.
J.K. Rowlings does quite a bit of commentary on society, things which are appropriate to any time or age, but especially our own.
Evil is real and MUST be confronted. (ISLAMOFASCISM)
Ignoring the problem will make it worse not better. (Edwards and his ‘its a bumper sticker inanity’)
Evil cannot be appeased in the hopes that it will take you last. (Proff. Slughorn and others)
Pacifism is the worst sort of complicity with evil. ( High Inquisitor Umbridge)
Greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for his fellows. (Jesus is Lord)
Immortal lessons, especially applicable to our times. Also a good read and a good time with fun characters. What more do you want from a book?
Welcome to FR.
I was thinking about all the things you mentioned when I finished the last book.
In the course of fighting against evil and for a way of life that was good, many dear people were lost or injured.
I felt the most sorry about Fred because I thought of George and how his life would also die. It was odd, but she never mentioned George again.
But we have to keep in mind that, although there is a sad price for defending our way of life, it is worth it in the end.
Well said! I was actually pretty shocked, as the books progressed, how closely they seemed to mirror what's happening in the world today, with our own sniveling politicians and the threat of Islamofascism.
Order of the Phoenix should be read by every grade school child, IMO, simply because it reflects so accurately what happens when you give liberals power in a time of danger. They become self-serving, head-in-the-sand petty fascist dictators.
But apart from social commentary, the books are just entertaining, and darn funny!
Excellent. Don’t forget, those in power seek to disarm and control the people. (The Ministry of Magic)
