Cannabis joint hits lungs like 5 cigarettes (alarmism strikes again)
ABC Australia ^ | 31 July 2007 | Too ashamed to say

Smoking a single joint of cannabis has the same impact on breathing capacity as up to five cigarettes, a new study shows.

The researchers say this may be because cannabis users tend to inhale more deeply and, because joints are smoked without a filter, the smoke is hotter when it hits the lungs.

Researchers from the Medical Research Institute of New Zealand publish their findings online in the journal Thorax.

Doctors recruited 339 volunteers who were divided into four categories: those who smoked only cannabis, those who smoked only tobacco, those who smoked both, and those who smoked neither.

Cannabis-only smokers were defined as those who had smoked the equivalent of at least one joint a day for five years; tobacco-only smokers were those who had smoked the equivalent of a packet of cigarettes a day for at least a year.

The participants were scanned by computed tomography (CT) to get a high-definition image of their lungs and were given tests to assess their airflow, or respiratory efficiency.

The researchers found the most serious damage in tobacco smokers - both tobacco-only and combined users - who were the only volunteers to have emphysema, a degenerative and crippling lung disease.

Cannabis smokers had lighter symptoms, such as wheeze, cough, chest tightness and phlegm, which tobacco smokers also had.

But the CT scan also revealed that, among cannabis smokers, fine damage had occurred to their lungs.

I’m voting Fred Thompson ‘08

I was unaware he had been nominated as a candidate.

“I was unaware he had been nominated as a candidate.”

Details, details...I should have said “Unless something unforeseen happens, ...”

Thompson’s non-candidacy is apparently more effective than most candidacies. ;-)

You get a bigger, cleaner hit. It's more efficient, but they are a hassle, and so are mostly relegated to dorm rooms.

Plus the damn dog always knocks over the bong with his tail.

Reekin' bong water everywhere.

Stupid dog.

Christ is certainly aware of the evils of cannabis. What happens when one uses the drug is that in the etheric body there enters from the astral plane an entity similar to the tobacco worm entity, referred to as Delta-9 Cannabis Sativa. This entity (about 9 ft. long and 6” in diameter) wraps itself around the etheric body of the user, with the head of the astral form hooked into the crown chakra, which corresponds to the physical brain and mental body. As more cannabis is inhaled, the entity digs deeper into the etheric double and crown chakra. The crown becomes , over time, sapped of its light by the entity. The crown chakra eventually becomes drained of it’s light, making the user less able to discern truth that vibrates at a frequency of light, and more susecptible to human relative knowlwedge. This unfortunately carries over into the next life, whereby the soul would have to redevelop any attainement garnered on the second ray of God-Wisdom in the crown chakra. In other words he would be ‘dim”. ( or, i.e., a “Dim”.)

Well, if drugs AREN’T involved in your case, you must have some interesting brain physiology.

(This is primarily an ongoing experiment to see how long you’ll keep compulsively replying...)

I’m not compulsive. I’m trying to get you to stop destroying your brain cells.

“I’m not compulsive. I’m trying to get you to stop destroying your brain cells.”

You’ll never get help if you remain in denial.

Further, you’re making unwarranted assumptions about my lifestyle. Finally, cannabis doesn’t destroy brain cells - you’re confusing it with alcohol.

The experiment continues...

What? You don’t smoke weed? I’ve been wasting my time!

“What? You don’t smoke weed? I’ve been wasting my time!”

I didn’t say one way or the other. I’m merely pointing out that you have no reason to assume that.

I found it quite amusing... ;-)

“I didn’t say one way or the other.”

I guess you’re conducting a double-blind experiment.

And the pro-pot softball team, quite impressive! Won’t be long before the pro-pot crowd is running NASA and piloting space shuttles.

I’m sure some of the astronauts are at least secretly pro-cannabis - intelligent people tend to lean that way in my experience.

“...intelligent people tend to lean that way in my experience.”

After enough reefer these intelligent people will go from leaning to stumbling and then completely falling over into your experience! (And I must add that we hold widely divergent views on the meaning of the word “intelligent”.)

‘I must add that we hold widely divergent views on the meaning of the word “intelligent”.’

I pretty much go with the dictionary definition. You?

Intelligence is a product of the brain; wisdom is a result of the level of functioning of the crown chakra (see post # 144). One may be intelligent with low wisdom; one may be wise with low intelligence. Pot smokers fall into the former group.

Perhaps. I doubt you’d know.

You are the energizer bunny of needing to have the last word though. ;-)

“I doubt you’d know.”

You doubt I’d know? Re-read post 144. Who else knows that?

“You are the energizer bunny of needing to have the last word though.” ;-)

Hey, you’re running the experiment. You can end it at anytime. I’m just a helpless subject. ;-)
