Hizbullah officer: We would've given up [OLMERT BLEW IT!]
Jerusalem Post ^

Posted on 07/31/2007 11:21:03 PM PDT by Enchante

"The cease-fire acted as a life jacket for the organization [at the end of the Second Lebanon War]," a Hizbullah officer said in an interview aired by Channel 10 on Tuesday.

In the interview, the unnamed officer said Hizbullah gunmen would have surrendered if the fighting last summer had continued for another 10 days.

His statement sharply contrasted with those made by Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah on several occasions since the monthlong war.

At the end of the war, Nasrallah said his organization had gained a "divine victory."

The officer shown on Channel 10 said the organization's gunmen had been running low on food and water and facing rapidly diminishing arms supplies.

The officer also said that many Hizbullah commanders were ordered to hide before the war started, and that the gunmen who remained were forced to fire Katyusha rockets from inside urban populations because of the IDF's efficiency in destroying launchers minutes after a launch had been detected.

He said that when the gunmen relocated to cities and villages, they knew innocent civilians would be hurt as a consequence.

The quick arrival of IAF jets at rocket-launch sites, sometimes only four to five minutes after a Katyusha was fired, "surprised" Hizbullah, the officer said.

The vaunted "international community" pressured to protect Hezbollah and Olmert foolishly gave up just when the terrorists were on the ropes.

This guy quoted is dangerously candid - you're not supposed to admit things like this when you are a jihad terrorist. A couple more weeks and Hezbollah could have been dealt some serious blows, so of course the Olmert government decided to fold.

The international community knew full well Hezbollah was on life support, and that’s precisely why their calls for a ceasefire becaming increasingly desperate by the day. They have a long history of saving Israel’s Islamic enemies from total defeat.

What’s so disappointing is that it would’ve been easy for Israel to gain another month or even longer to grind them. All they had to do was agree to “talks.”

That question has been answered in detail countless times on FR over the years. I suspect most who ask know the answer; they just like asking the question.

Here's Dennis Prager's considered and informed take on the matter:

Part 1

Part 2

The statement from Hizbullah is completely untrue. Don’t believe anything they say. Worse case scenario would be the Hizzies withdrawing into Syria, where Olmert wouldn’t have the guts to follow.

I still would say the same thing to Israel as I say to America after 2006, behold the government you elected! How can they/we be suprised?

the sad thing is that this is the party of sharon that did this -not labor or meretz.

the really sad thing is that not even Dennis Kucinich would give up his country like this.

Israel will continue to wander in the terrorist wilderness until it has the courage to defend the land God gave them.

Alas! They the Nation of Israel are fatigued with war, thus their willingness to quit each time they take a step forward, and every time the pressure is put on them to buckle under world opinion. You would think after all this time they would learn. I do believe they need a blood transfusion as well as a set of new principals or they will go the way of many past Israels of the Bible. I do believe God is looking through HIS window and with much melancholy saying,”Oh my beloved Israel, you once again have turned your back to me”. Where is the trust? Where is your allegiance?
