These dogs often have their ears and tails cut off. Even though pit bulls exhibit high levels of aggression toward other dogs, they are considered loyal and gentle companion animals. Today, the increasing level of aggression from dogs is a result of poor training and breeding.
A fighting dog’s life is typically miserable from beginning to end. They often live in dreadful conditions at the end of a chain. Fighting dogs that are defeated are usually killed and dumped. Those that are dumped end up in animal shelters. The task of rehabilitating or euthanizing now becomes the responsibility of the taxpayers.
About 30 percent of the shelter dog population in the United States is pit bulls or pit bull mixes. The number rises to 75 percent in some urban shelters. Many pit bulls are even-tempered and gentle creatures that crave human attention, but many of these dogs are stereotyped and overlooked or euthanized.
Stolen dogs and cats are used to train fighting dogs to give them the taste of blood. The dog fighter then continues training by progressing on to larger dogs and pit bulls. The loser dies and is discarded like trash. “Dog fighters represent a range of personality types and psychological disorders,” according to Stephanie LaFarge, Ph.D., ASPCA director of counseling services. According to Mark MacDonald, an agent with the ASPCA law enforcement, “self-esteem is an important issue.” “Many fighters come from non-responsive homes and communities with limited social or economic opportunity” because “they never acquire the tools to excel.”

Yes...yes...Vick is a VICTIM! His background FORCED him into training dogs to attack each other...in fact, the fault lies in white racism.

Time to get the IRS involved.
I hope Vick spends his life in prison for hurting those dogs. I don’t even like pit-bulls.
Actually I was really surprised when the Vick story broke. I seriously thought the only people into dog fighting were white trash and mexicans. I didn’t know it was prevalent in ghetto culture.
This is why Vick's in such serious trouble. The Feds have chosen him as the poster boy for what happens to somebody involved in dog fighting to discourage others from going down the same road. Since it looks like he set up a dog fighter's Disney World in Virginia and is such a high profile football player, he's the ideal person to make an example of, thereby achieving the law enforcement equivalent of a hat trick or bases loaded home run.
