There are many who cannot bear the suggestion that reenergized American military operations under Gen. David Petraeus are making headway, and yesterday they were shocked by Brookings Institution think-tankers who, writing in The New York Times, allow that Iraq is today "a war we just might win."
Michael O'Hanlon and Kenneth Pollack have been harshly critical of the war's prosecution in the past. But now, returned from eight days at the front, they point to the turnaround in Anbar Province, the plunging civilian fatality rates and the improving performance of Iraqi security forces as signs things may at last be working.
O'Hanlon and Pollack admit "the situation in Iraq remains grave," notably the failure of Iraqi politicians to govern cohesively. But they still conclude there "is enough good happening on the battlefields of Iraq today that Congress should plan on sustaining the effort at least into 2008." There's a clear memo to those who are pushing for withdrawal. What a nuisance it is to hear from people who have looked at the facts.

The only option left to Dems is to consider a military coup attempt and take over the government in Washington by force. Maybe they could hire NATO Blue Helmets to do the job.
We’ve been doing much better than the MSM has reported from the beginning. Only now our success is undeniable. The MSM are covering themselves by claiming the “surge” is a big change in the course of things.
We’ve been exterminating terrorists from day one.

It is with bitter amusement that we notice the efforts to bring about defeat and criticize the Iraqi government by the RATs in Congress and the Senate. They did exactly the same thing to end the Viet Nam war and bring about the slaughter of millions in Viet Nam and Cambodia. The RATs (especially Obama Hussein), have already said they don’t care if millions die after we pull out of Iraq. They are the world’s leaders in promoting genocide. So much for their concern for people.
...”Weve been exterminating terrorists from day one.”
Exactly. From Afghanistan, to Iraq, to the Philippines, to the Horn of Africa, and to many places in the shadows globally islamic nazis are being stacked up like cordwood. But, the democrat party and its propaganda mouthpiece - “MSM” - have a vested interest in “Bush’s failure” so all that has been heard since the 9/11 attacks has been dismal. Remember the “quagmire” little more than 2 weeks into OEF, and similarly two weeks into OIF 1 with the sandstorms?
Despicable nattering nabobs of negativity.
Amazing that this is coming from the NY Daily News, which is usually as liberal as the NY Times. It appears to be an “official” editorial and not just one op-ed writer?? Would not have expected them to look at reality like this.
The ‘RATs in DC will either be passing out Jim Jones Kool-aid or else they will viciously counter-attack as they realize their anti-war gambit is failing and the public will start to see them for the worthless weasels they are.
They did exactly the same thing to end the Viet Nam war and bring about the slaughter of millions in Viet Nam and Cambodia. How can you say that? Why, I just heard John Kerry say again, just the other day, that there was no bloodbath when we left Vietnam. (He was in Vietnam, you know. Just in case you hadn't heard.)
Actually, I think this is the NYT's way of sending a message to the Dem rank and file that these two are going to drive the Democrat Party over a cliff and that they must be dumped.
Dems had better cut off the funding immediately, to make sure we lose. Good news could jeopardize the next elections by taking their only issue — moaning about Bush and Iraq — off the table.
The Dhimmi’s new talking point is that “we’re winning the military war, but we’re losing the political war because Iraq won’t step to the plate and take charge.”
They will counter attack along the lines; 'yes, we may have experienced short term military success ... but, this is more than offset by lack of political gain in Iraq. Iraq is in the throes of a civil war.'
Kerry was right, there was no bloodbath at the exact moment in time our troops left Vietnam... it happened 2 years later. He failed to mention that the resulting bloodbath came because of the cowardly and crass Democrat Congressional betrayal of a treaty ally, South Vietnam.
This makes him and his party more directly responsible in ways that aren't even touched on by the reality of the American pullout. What Kerry and the Democrats did wasn't just malfeasance or policy incompetence, it was treason, plain and simple.
