I believe you're thinking of the Orbital engine, although the patent drawing over at Wikipedia sure doesn't look anything like what I remember news coverage of the thing looking like.

What came out of Sarcich's efforts was his Air Assisted Direct Injector.

Used on Mercury Optimax Engines, Tohatshu's Outboards, Aprilia Scooters (and other scooters) and now Hirth UAV engines (see post above).

The engine is gone, but an offshoot technology and the Company lives on.
