Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The national race for the Republican Partys presidential nomination in the United States remains closely contested, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 26 per cent of respondents would vote for former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani in a 2008 primary, while 25 per cent would back actor and former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson.
Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney is third with 12 per cent, followed by Arizona senator John McCain with 10 per cent. Support is lower for former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee.
On Jul. 28, Romney discussed his views on free trade, saying, "Wed like to see more agreements, not fewer, to improve the economic well-being of our neighbourhood. (...) Surely the next American president would want to reach out to our friends around the world, particular here in our own hemisphere."
In American elections, candidates require 270 votes in the Electoral College to win the White House. In November 2004, Republican George W. Bush earned a second term after securing 286 electoral votes from 31 states. Democratic nominee John Kerry received 252 electoral votes from 19 states and the District of Columbia.
Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The next presidential election is scheduled for November 2008.

Considering all the flack Fred’s been taking in the press and the blogosphere the last week or so these numbers aren’t bad for an undeclared candidate and sorry for the formatting it’s not my thing.
Well where’s hunters .08 percent?
Good question I think /s...
Right where it has been all along: Ignored in fear of giving him any credibility and somewhere just above Ron Paul's *. This is why Hunter, at least, should be doing everything he can to put himself into situations where he has to be mentioned. He seems to be trying; I'll give him that.
I'm surprised that Hunter wasn't even mentioned in the article.

Never trust a liberal.
GO FRed GO!
Face it, here we have a man who has not been able to hold a job. Is he a Senator? NYC DA? White house Chief of Staff? Naval Officer? Watergate insider? Director of Air Traffic Control? An attorney? Muslim Sympathizer? Abortionist? Is he lazy, indecisive? A smug liar? A womanizer with no real sense of decency?
What or who exactly is this man that many so called “Conservatives” have decided to follow so blindly, like lemmings over into the nothingness...
Personally I knew it would come to this, his numbers taking a hard drop and continuing to do so and in the end his very few but very vocal supporters a long with his smug and insulting “non-campaign” will go the way of the Dodo or Michael Jackson’s career.
Maybe then the good citizens of NYC can rest little easier since their “part time” DA can at least get back to his little two day a week job.
Just as the MSM has their lefty favorites, so too do some of the conservative media outlets for their favorites.
I was polled last week about Republican candidates and Duncan didn’t make the list.
The question was posed as this, “If the Primaries were held today, which one of these candidates would you vote for...”
Then they mentioned Rudy, Fred, Mitt, and John.
I then said, “Duncan Hunter.”
She said, “Who?”
“Duncan Hunter”
“I’m sorry sir, he’s not on my list.”
“Well write him on the list.”
She said, “Can you spell his name?”
“D-U-N-C-A-N H-U-N-T-E-R”
“OK, I’m writing that down”, she said.
(Yeah, sure ya are, baby)
I then asked, where she was from, and she said she was IN the Philippines.
Go figure.
If I’m Rudy, I’m thinking that things pretty much suck right about now since I’ve only got a one point lead over a guy who is still theoretically a candidate. That means just as many people are for me as there are for any other dude who shows up to the right of me and I’m still out $35M.
Julie-Annie is spending millions of dollars and he's being overtaken by a guy whose campaign has supposedly fallen apart before it's even begun.
Are you bragging or complaining? You seem to be a big fan of polls since you seem to think yourself clever with your banal “0.5%” quip. I saw a poll on another thread that stated the Breck Girl is ahead of Fred by double digits. All Polls, and especially those taken at this point are just arbitrary self-fulfilling prophecies in that they manipulate and confuse an often uninformed and apathetic electorate. What is the +-% you always see in regards to the polls? I mean +-% what? Garbage in, garbage out. Take any poll, how many in the poll heard a name they recognized and said, “that one”? How many could name 4 or 5 candidates from either party? How would the people have answered who didn’t answer their phones or wish to participate in a survey? How sure were they about the candidate they chose? On a scale of 1 to 10, how likely were they to vote for that candidate? Were the people polled really Republican and really registered voters? Why is it always 500-1000 participants? If it’s as simple as a phone call why not do 10,000? You can rightly say, “hey, they are usually pretty close” and I can then submit that’s the self-fulfilling aspect of this. I think little of the polls and they are no more than a substitute for an electorate that doesn’t care enough to inform themselves, and that are powered by little more than name recognition. Choosing the leader of the free world isn’t enough to break the apathy so we just allow ourselves to be spoon-fed our leaders. Well the polls say, “ ‘x’ is ahead and I think he can win so he is my guy”. I have to say your comment comes off as a bit puerile when you peel back the thin skin of the polls and expose the weaknesses and deceits within.

this article is based on last Friday’s Rasmussen poll. It is not a new poll.
Thanks
You’re forgetting to condemn FredHeads for ‘personal attacks’ while every other sentence in your posts is calling them starstruck lemmings who pick their candidates from television shows and know nothing about Fred Thompson.
