NBC producer, Brokaw colleague dies in Manhattan building plunge
New York Newsday ^ | 7/30/07 | ROCCO PARASCANDOLA,

Posted on 07/30/2007 7:29:28 PM PDT by LdSentinal

NEW YORK (AP) _ A former Emmy-winning television producer who worked with Tom Brokaw at NBC News died Monday after falling from his apartment building, police said.

Police initially reported that the producer, Eric R. Wishnie, was hit by a vehicle that fled the scene, but later they said they had located a witness who saw him as he fell from an adjacent building. The medical examiner's office said it had scheduled an autopsy.

NBC News President Steve Capus said in a statement that Wishnie, 44, was "an enormously talented former senior producer at NBC News, who had a hand in some of the most monumental and memorable news stories of our time."

Wishnie produced numerous stories for Brokaw in the Middle East, along with coverage of the Olympic Games in Athens, Sydney and Atlanta and the first North American interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

He was found in the street in Greenwich Village at about 3 a.m. Monday, and he died two hours later at a hospital, NBC said.

Strange story, a lot of details missing.

He "FELL" out of his building?

Was it a running fall, a tripping fall, a drunken stupor fall, or an Olympic 2-1/2 gainer fall?

Having successfully proved that acceleration due to gravity exists, he lived another two hours after being found?

How high was his apartment? The second floor?

If witnesses saw him, did he fall around 3 a.m. and they called the police?

Or did the witnesses let him lie in the street until found by the police at 3 a.m.? Along those lines, did he still have his wallet and was there any cash or credit cards in it?

The most puzzling thing for me however, is where you came up with the name "ROCCO PARASCANDOLA" in your title?

A search on the article link you provided shows no "ROCCO".

I only ask because I notice when a paisan has a last name ending in a vowel and it's longer than my ten letters. Plus he's named Rocco, can't beat that for a cool Eyetie first name. I've only got some dull Saint's name.

This sounds like a suicide to me, although I guess it could have been an accident. Having known a family who experienced a relative’s suicide, it’s devastating for them. Very sad story.

“Yep. As much as I detest the liberal media, what it stands for and what it is trying to do to our country, I would not extend that animus to this person or his family or friends.”

Karma payback for the death of 100 million is a bitch.

The leftist MSM has a long tradition of leftist genocide coverup from Duranty to the killing fields of Cambodia.

Well, you will not find a more vocal critic of liberal policies, communism and socialism than I am.

However, I do not wish FR to sound like DU. I like to think conservatism is the ideology of ideas, not emotion.

If we cry out in glee when a depressed person is spattered on a sidewalk, because we disagree with their politics or opinions, I think that makes us more like liberals and less like conservatives. I have always felt that conservatives ARE more compassionate and in touch with the realities of the world than liberals are.

We don’t need to gloat over this guy’s demise, that is all I am saying.

Whats DU and why do you read it.

The MSM is in a death spiral and you are bound to see lots of stuff like this whenever a sacred cow succombs.

There is no glee, only anticipation eg look whats happening with Redstones family feud - ABC qtrly earnings have plummeted.

“Net earnings were $404.0 million, or $.55 per diluted share, compared with $781.7 million, or $1.02 per diluted share, for the second quarter of 2006. “

Hi spanalot,

FYI...DU = Democratic Underground, what many consider to be the liberal analog to Free Republic.

To be honest, I have been over there a few times, and it IS a festering hate-swamp of conspiracy theorists, 9/11 Truthers and a large percentage of people who suffer from Bush Derangement Syndrome. It is an unpleasant place (said with the same tone King Arthur might describe Camelot as a “silly” place. Needless to say, I leave it to “professionals” such as PJ-Comix to venture there and tell us what they are writing over there, for example, when Justice Roberts had a seizure and was injured, you can imagine how some over there were filled with joy.

Bottom line is, I think you and I agree with taking joy at the demise of the MSM, the sooner the better. I just think the line should be drawn at the individual.

Fwiw, there's this:

Details In Greenwich Village NBC Death

wilshie_073107.jpgThe story surrounding Eric Wishnie, the Emmy-winning NBC News producer who fell to his death in Greenwich Village yesterday, just gets more and more depressing. The Daily News reports that his 10-year marriage to Dateline's Dawn Fratangelo was in a state of collapse and that Wishnie was fired from NBC in 2006 because of his alcohol and pill addictions. Wishnie regularly had vodka delivered to his apartment, according to the Post. Brian Williams wrote a tribute to Wishnie in his blog:

"As he had done for years with Tom Brokaw before me, Eric and I travelled the globe. The tsunami in Indonesia, the war in Iraq ... we interviewed presidents and world leaders. He was an enormously talented producer and one of the funniest guys I've ever met ... He raised self-effacing humor to an art form, and he is responsible for easily a quarter of all the music on my iPod. I would often come into work in the morning to find a new CD on my computer keyboard, along with a note from my friend and fellow music-lover Eric — saying that it was vital that I hear this particular new band. He left the News Division a while back, but the place still bears his mark. We will now bear the burden of his loss, along with his loved ones, and of not having Eric in our lives anymore."

Wishnie passed away after a 30-foot fall from the garden roof of his three-story apartment building at West 10th Street & Sixth Avenue. Police found a dozen vodka bottles, empty pill bottles and months of unopened mail inside.

I happened to be looking at these pictures recently and I noticed that there are quite a few differences between them besides the presence or absence of Yezhov.
